What to do and see in Cannes, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur: The Best Food & Drink

August 7, 2021 Marianna Hollaway

Galas, regattas, the Film Festival and an outrageously attractive and affluent set characterize Cannes. Vast yachts obscure the view and the town lives up to its motto, "Life is a festival." People-watching is the activity that brings most visitors to Cannes, and hotel-lined La Croisette provides a fine promenade. First popularized by Coco Chanel, Cannes beaches are a huge draw. Get expensive seaside food and drinks service on hotel sand or opt for the free public beaches, Plages du Midi and de la Boca.

Marche Forville

This traditional French outdoor market specializes in quality produce harvested by local farmers.

Long established traditional market with a good selection of fruit, vegetables, cheese, fish and more including ready to eat snacks. Vibrant in the morning especially in the high season and short distance from both old town, Rue Antibes and small shopping lanes. Worth adding to your list of Cannes experiences.

Le Bar a Vin

Le Bar a Vin has the particularity of having over 50 wines by the glass, a real find for the adventurous visitor. Hidden in this quiet street is a convivial spot to enjoy an evening among friends, you can sample the traditional food served on boards to encourage sharing. The ever present sommelier and owner Cedric will help you choose the right wine for the right moment.

And so it should be said that the owner is an acquaintance of mine.... but as has been said, this is a wonderfully cosy hideaway that lifts a night with a classy selection of wines. Whilst one can remain steadfast in the pursuit of Vin Provencal, the sommelier ( a curious creature reminiscent of an infamous German chicken farmer) has a vast array of other weapons at his disposal. There is of course a more immersive line of "tapas" that showcases the best of local cuisine .... but it's the wine stupid!!!!
