Canggu is a coastal village and 10 km beach on the south coast of Bali, Indonesia. It lies approximately 10 kilometers north of Kuta, and presents a much more relaxing atmosphere of dining, cultural and beach activities. The main Canggu streets are Jalan Batu Bolong, Jalan Padang Linjong, Jalan Batu Mejan and Jalan Tanah Barak. Along Jalan Batu Bolong you find the temple of the dead, Pura Merajapati, and the Pipitan Cemetery. Along the beach there are two main temples, Pura Batu Bolong and Pura Batu Mejan, which are both hundreds of years old and were initiated for building by Dang Hyang Nirartha. The Canggu area used to have scenic views of paddy fields and coconut groves but current rapid developments are quickly replacing these traditional views with private villas.

I 'forced' my husband to come with me to this class but we both had an amazing time and it was worth every penny. The venue is stunning and authentic; you feel like you're in another world. Sri and Iboe Soelastri were excellent teachers. It was a very hands on class and we cooked everything from scratch. You choose five dishes you'd like to make from an extensive menu, and if your favourite Indonesian dish is not listed they are happy to accommodate. We chose sate lilit, sambal goreng udang, lawar kacang panjang, opor ayam and sambal bajak. Wow! What a feast!! Every dish had its own distinctive amazing flavour. We couldn't finish it all and they were happy to package up the leftovers for us to take home. It was all a very special experience. Highly recommended without hesitation.

I am Indonesian, from Makassar, Sulawesi. My grandmother taught me how to cook when I was a little girl. Makassar food tends to be spicy but I can customize it for each audience.
