What to do and see in Cancun, Quintana Roo: The Best Food Tours

January 29, 2022 Merry Kessler

Sunny Cancun has much more to offer than its party-town reputation might suggest. Plenty of gorgeous, drama-free family resorts cater to folks who want to experience the tropical Yucatan climate. There are significant Mayan ruins here, such as El Rey and the Yamil Lu’um, a crumbling tower of pale gray stone. Learn more about this ancient civilization at the Museo Maya de Cancun. For a literal taste of Mexico, take a tour of the Museo Sensorial del Tequila.

10/10 I would do this trip again. My advice would be to go for the 4 hour tour over the 2 hour version because it goes by very quickly. Everyone is unbelievably kind and you taken care of the entire time. If you are looking for a snorkeling trip where you don't have to plan anything, this is the one for you.

Our guide Sasha took us to four of his favorite taco places around Cancun and gave us a little history of the area. At each place we got a different type of taco and a drink. Afterward, we went to a local park with a street fair where we are churros and looked at the booths. It was a pleasant three and a half hours. Highly recommended if you want to sample what the locals eat.

I want to start by saying that our tour guide, Sofia, was great and this is was not her fault - I would give her service 5 stars alone. But beware, if you book this trip to climb the Mui Pyramid as falsely advertised in their pictures as seen here and on Expedia and as mentioned in their highlights, you will be disappointed. Upon arrival, the pyramid was roped off due to Covid (which is nonsensical, as if you don't catch Covid being around other travelers all day but will while climbing up to the pyramid's summit). I had booked this excursion solely for that. I then filed a written and verbal complaint to Sofia as well as Expedia, but so far this tour company refused to acknowledge this falsification, nor provide any refund or compensation. Meanwhile, they have since removed the climbing activity from their highlights, but I attached a screenshot of the Expedia page where they mentioned that in writing as proof below.
