The sun-drenched Canary Islands lie close to North Africa and have an exotic flavor of their own. Hundreds of volcanoes, rolling sand dunes, rich forests and rugged cliffs dapple these seven Atlantic gems. Catch a ferry to Lanzarote. Ride a camel through volcanic Timanfaya National Park. Take on Tenerife, home of Mount Teide, Spain's tallest peak. Romp Grand Canary's beaches or hike La Gomera's Garajonay National Park. More adventures await on tiny El Hierro, verdant La Palma and peaceful Fuerteventura.

Jardín de Cactus was the last intervention work César Manrique performed in Lanzarote. The artist from Lanzarote could see beyond how run down the ancient rofera was. Roferas were the quarries that raids are taken from to create a very particular home for cactaceae flowers from all over he world. Surrounded by the largest cactus plantation of the island, dedicated to crops of cochineal insect, a product of great financial relevance in Lanzarote in the 19th Century. Jardín de Cactus has around 4,500 specimens of 450 different species, of 13 different families of cactus from the five continents. The green shade of the plants stands out against the blue sky and the dark volcano creating a harmonious explosion of colour that impresses visitors. The only sounds that break the peace and quiet that prevails, are singing birds and boozing insects, enjoying their very own oasis.
Had seen loads of positive reviews, yet I was sceptical I would enjoy. We drove past on part of a hire car day from Playa Blanca and I’m very glad we visited. The entry fee is good value for money and the cacti are simply amazing, from the delicate to the architectural in a well laid out, sympathetic design by the famous Cesar Manrique. It is well worth a visit and I’d strongly recommend.

The only animal recue centre in the Canaries. COCODRILE PARK is home to many animals brought by individuals or seized governmments. Many have terrible stories of abuse and neglect before coming here.
Very nice well kept rescued animals including tigers snakes chimps birds and lots of crocodiles including babies. Make sure you go at interactive times (11am - 1pm ish). Not expensive

One of the attractions of the beautiful Puerto de la Cruz. It is worth going there just to see what a great wealth of plants can be seen in this area. It's such a small nature lesson for everyone, beautiful flowers and amazing trees. Just beautiful !

I am a nature lover and for me this garden was the prettiest part of Orotava. I went there twice with books, music and lunch and spend hours relaxing and reading. Very well landscaping and beautiful flowers.

This unique garden erected on the side of a ravine has examples of every kind of vegetation found on the Canaries.
Short bus ride from Las Palmas, the driver told us where to get off. We entered via the upper (free) entrance and made our way down steep paths towards the lower entrance. there is an amazing variety of plants, trees (including numerous Dragon trees) and cacti (over a third of the world's known cacti). The gardens are well maintained with clean toilets, a restaurant near the upper entrance and were peaceful, not many visitors in February. We would certainly go back if we visited Gran Canaria again.
