Taufers Castle was built at the beginning of the 13th century on a rocky outcrop separating the Tauferer and Ahrntal valleys. The main castle against the mountain of Ahornach in the north (attack side) consists of keep and attached residential tower, another palas (later grain box) is located in a protected place in the west. The site, given by the natural site, is bordered by a circumferential ring wall, to which various residential buildings, mostly built in the early 16th century, are based. The weirs around the gate tower (15th century) are of importance to castles. Of the interior, the Gothic frescoes of the chapel with a rare Deesis and the many wood-paneled and comfortably furnished rooms are particularly worth mentioning. Careful restorations were carried out in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Definitely worth a view if you are in Sand in Taufers. Try to take the nature trail leading to the castle. It is extremely beautiful.

Tour of Tures Castle without a guide (only in summer) The gate system with the former drawbridges, the charming castle garden, the large courtyard with "smithy" and ice cellar are accessible. Information boards explain the individual components. The keep with film screening room (documentary film on the castle), the ramparts and the attic of the former palace ("box") can also be visited without a tour. The latter is particularly impressive. In addition, there are special exhibitions on historical topics every year from Easter to All Saints' Day.

The first mention of the barons of Taufers dates back to 1136. At the latest in the 1920s, they built a new and large stately home. Mastio and dongione (habitable tower) were erected towards the mountainous coast, the only part from which an attack could have come. The palace (later used as a barn) was erected on the western side, in an area protected by the nature of the land itself. The building area, already delimited in itself by the conformation of the rocky spur on which the castle stands, was further defined with the construction of a wall, along which several residential buildings were subsequently added, especially at the beginning of the sixteenth century.
