Angkor Pottery Center

Angkor Pottery Center, run by Siem Reap's most famous local Cambodian potter Ms Paruth Hann, is a wonderful place to learn the art of Khmer pottery. About 4500 years older than the Angkor temples, this art form can be learnt for just $7. Stop by on your way to the floating villages of Tonle Sap lake or spend half a day learning about Khmer pottery designs, carving and glazing.

Thanks to Mrs. Paruth, we had an amazing time in class and brought home some very precious memories and hand-made souvenirs! Mrs. Paruth was very patient in teaching us how to make our very own cup/bowl/vase, we were complete beginners to pottery but we still managed to make something nice with her professional guidance! Mr.s Paruth was so nice to send the burnt and glazed products to our hotel. We were so happy with the class and the products we made.

This is a lovely arts school supported by an NGO - students learn traditional dance, drawing, music and more. I found it by chance while staying at the Okay Boutique Hotel opposite and it's down a tiny alley opposite the hotel entrance. I now visit each time I'm in Cambodia. It's very authentic and not designed as a tourist attraction. That's one aspect that makes it appealing to me. I wish the hotel could promote it more as I'm sure guests would enjoy watching the morning sessions and performances to which public are invited for a small donation (I've never seen more than a handful there). Check the schedule to ensure you're there at the time the students are not in their private classes. There is a lovely gift shop selling some of the art by the students plus scarves and jewelry. There is a little stage with seating and visitors may request a tour of the other rooms and classes if convenient with the teaching schedule. It can get very hot, despite fans but the rooftop bar at the Okay Boutique Hotel opposite is close for a cool escape if needed (and fabulous views!). Students and staff are always welcoming and it's a joy to see young Cambodian artists proud of the country's traditions, busy with their studies and eager to share Cambodian culture with the world!

We had a completely amazing time - the chef who hosted us had very good English and 10 years cooking experience. We started off by deciding which meals we were to make with our fellow classmates and then set off to the market to source the ingredients. At the market he let us taste a few unfamiliar Cambodian fruits in addition to the ingredients we sought. He also went into great detail when describing the various fruits and vegetables we came across. We felt that he invested a lot of effort to immerse us in our Cambodian food experience. The cooking was really well instructed and the dishes were totally delicious. Couldn’t recommend more!!

Mr Ly was able to hook me up with a personal training session on short notice because I dropped in. The gym is well-equipped. I worked with their lead coach who got me on a bunch of drills and pad work. As someone with several years of martial arts training, the work-out was challenging (especially in the humidity), and helped me remember what it was like to work out with a good coach. Thank you!
