Visit the Interpretative and Welcome Center to learn about the Cajun Coast. Then, step into an unspoiled South Louisiana swamp by stepping outside our doors. As you stroll the covered walkway around the building, view tupleo and cypress trees, hear cicada, spy an American Bald Eagle or catch a glimpse of Cayenne — the 6-foot American Alligator who lives in the swamp behind the visitor center.

My wife and I were the only visitors to the oil rig museum on a Wednesday morning in February 2020, and it was our good fortune to be guided by the museum curator, Bryce Merrill, a semi-retired diver and rig worker whose artifact collection created the museum. Tours are at 10am and 2pm only, and the museum apparently is open only in conjunction with the tours. Our trip on to the rig lasted an hour and more, with Bryce ready to answer any questions. this is one of the best tours of this type we have ever taken.

My time at Mr Charlie was quite an experience, thanks to the Curator Bryce. The weather was tough, it was gloomy, maybe not an ideal day to tour an old oil rig. Thanks to our informative, knowledgeable, and experienced guide, it turned the day into an unforgettable tour, imbuing us with boatloads of knowledge, and upon leaving, we were so immersed I almost felt like I spend some time living on the old oil drilling rig. I would recommend to ANYONE of any age, especially being casual and non committal. Austin DeLoach, Age 30 SoCal

Prior to returning to New Orleans we decided to stop at the Wedell-Williams Aviation and Cypress Sawmill Museum after reading about it on TripAdvisor. The museum did not disappoint us considering that it is free to enter. There is a donation jar if you decide to contribute but there is no pressure. The museum is not very large but it holds a vast amount of history regarding local aviation, women in aviation, shrimping, and the the lumbering of Cypress in Patterson a long time ago. The museum has a lovely layout and is quite visitor friendly. It is evident that there has been lots of dedication put into this museum. My son particularly enjoyed the airplanes and the movie on aviation that not only provided information on Jimmie Wedell and Harry P. Williams but also the role of women in aviation as well. In addition, the museum attendant provided a wonderful activity for my son in which he was given an activity sheet and was challenged to locate the different types of shrimp in the aquarium. He absolutely loved the activity. This museum is indeed excellent with helping individuals expand their knowledge on the role that the small town of Patterson played in the field of aviation. Great things really do come in small packages and that is exactly what we discovered during our visit to the Wedell-Williams Aviation and Cypress Sawmill Museum. Thanks for providing such an informative visit.

Just off of Hwy 70 between Lake Palourde and the highway. Tranquil walking trail with a memorial to Morgan City's long time Mayor, "Doc" Brownell as well as the seemingly out of place carillon tower. Great place to spot a bald eagle, coons, etc.

We camped with our group of 11 Class A coaches. The sites are gravel, with adequate spacing for our rig and toad. Sites are not perfectly level so be prepared. There is a fire ring, picnic table, large pavilion and spacious enclosed area which we used for our evening buffet. Lots of trees. You can fish, bring your boat, and enjoy the wildlife.
