Jardin Botanico y Cultural William Miranda Marin

Take a stroll through the history of Puerto Rican roots and our ancestors in the Botanical Garden of Caguas! Here you can learn and admire about diverse fauna and flora and history in our island. In this protected garden you will find archeologic artifacts that used to belong our Taino ancestors. The remains of the Sugarcane factory Ingenio Azucar San Jose reside in this location along the remains of the centenary Barracon that is also on the location. The garden celebrates our diverse background that is composed of Taino , African and Spanish roots. The Botanical garden is located at only 30 minutes from San Juan. It is a beautiful park where you can either take a stroll and observe nature, meditate, or sight-see. The site is not only considered a garden, but also as a historic site, ecologic and historical museum.

Having a tour guide show us around the gardens was a must to completely appreciate the exhibits, plants, sculptures and history of the area. Our knowledgeable guide told us about the history of Puerto Rico which included the past, present and evolution of the Puerto Rican people. It was educational and interesting information that I would not have been privy too if walking through the gardens on my own. Sculptures to recognize the individual cultures that make up the Puerto Rican people were beautiful. We were shown plants used for medicinal purposes which can be found throughout the island, as well as historical buildings scattered around the property. The gardens should be on your to-do-list if you are looking for some tranquil hours of lovely garden strolling, along with a knowledgeable, friendly tour guide. The guided tours use a vehicle with stops along the way.
