Vikersund Ski Jumping Center

World Record at the World’s Largest Hill Before the Trial World Championships in 2011, a new, comprehensive development of Vikersundbakken was completed; the hill became a full-fledged K-195, and declared the world’s largest ski-flying hill. During the Trial World Championships, Johan Remen Evensen flew down to a fantastic new world record of 246.5 meters. In 2011, further development at the hill was done before the World Championships in February, 2012. The expectations for the World Championships in 2012 were sky high, and were met. With more than 60,000 spectators and a record high number of television viewers, this became the all-time high World Championships in Ski-Flying! In February 2015 Peter Prevc is writing history. He is the first human that have jumped 250 meters on ski. But the same weekend Anders Fannemel beet this record with 251,5 meter. What a weekend in Vikersund. We look forward to World Cup 12.-14. February in 2016.

We used Slaata’s ski rental service for a week. The multi hire, allowing us to alternate between downhill and Nordic skis was fantastic value, especially as the weather was a bit mixed. When it was bad we took to the trails so none of our holiday was wasted. We also took the Tuesday night Cross country taster course which was absolutely brilliant. I’m ashamed to say that I’ve forgotten the instructors name but he was a great teacher and taught us all a huge amount in a short time. It gave us enough skill to feel confident to do some enjoyable trips. Highly recommended. Thanks.

Hallingskarvet Skisenter Sudndalen

Hallingskarvet Ski Resort is a well-hidden skiers paradise, centrally located in the southern mountains of Norway. Our long, wide, varied and well maintained slopes offer great variety, incredible off-piste experiences, lots of space and a friendly atmosphere that suits everyone - whether you are a family with young children, or an expert 'powder-hunter'. You'll find us right in the middle between Oslo and Geilo in the small village of Sudndalen, right below the majestic mountain - "Hallingskarvet". Our resort is also the ideal starting place for those who wish to explore the magnificent 'Winter Paradise' around Hallingskarvet, with over 110 km of well maintained cross-country tracks. From top to bottom of the resort you will descend 510 vertical meters, with pistes up to 3 km in length. The Park is developed in cooperation with X-Games Gold Medalist Andreas Håtveit (one of the 75 local residents), and the off-piste areas have for decades been the breeding ground for many pros.

Plenty of opportunities for free skiing, skiing in the woods for children, and well maintained slopes. But I shouldn't write this, because what we love most is that it feels peaceful and local. Btw they have the best buns in the cafe!
