The highest mountain in the Black Mountain Range.
[Warning: Young adults from Central Florida in for vacation] Okay, we cheated. We drove to the parking lot near the top and ‘hiked’ the 200 steps (on a nicely paved and gently sloping path) to the top. It’s an easy walk and there were plenty of young kids joking around while running to the top and parents pushing strollers. There were a good number of guests up there (the most we ran into on this side), but it wasn’t annoying, and it was fairly easy to enjoy the view without someone’s head getting in the way.
GREAT VIEWS FROM THE TOP
At the end is a large, elevated platform with signs showing you the surrounding 360 landscape. Plenty of photo opportunities abound including a sign telling you that you’re now on top of the tallest peak east of the Mississippi.
LITTLE SHOP AT THE BASE
Before the little walk, there’s a small museum giving information about the location, bathrooms, a little snack shop and gift shop.

Snakeroot Ecotours operates in the shadow of the Black Mountains, the tallest range in the eastern U.S. Not far from Asheville, in the heart of the Blue Ridge, our forests are among the most diverse temperate forests in the world. The hills are carpeted with over 1500 native flowering plant species and countless fungi and critters. Join us for an immersive guided tour of this special corner of Appalachian wilderness.
A guided nature walk with Tal opened my eyes to the natural world around me -- the go-to 'green' descriptor of the forest became mundane as Tal taught me about the types of trees, flowers, shrubs, moss, fungi, creatures, etc., along the path we walked. Tal is beyond knowledgeable, a patient guide, and skilled at sharing his passion about nature in an engaging, interactive, and exciting style. A nature walk with Snakeroot can only be described as a tremendous treat!

The parking area to visit Crabtree Falls is located at Milepost 339.5 on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Yancey County. There is a small restaurant/gift shop open seasonally. The .9-mile trail to the base of the falls is rocky and moderately strenuous. Crabtree Falls is only 70 feet in height, but it is powerful, and it is arguably one of the prettiest cascades in the state. It is easy to get good photos from several vantage points. Worth every step down and back up.

Stables offers the most scenic, guided horseback trail rides in the area. One of Western North Carolina’s best kept secrets, we have over 20 miles of trails, experienced guides, and gentle horses in a beautiful, relaxing environment. Take in the fabulous 360 degree views of the Cherokee and Pisgah National Forests from the top of Big Bald Mountain at over 5,500’ elevation! Or, enjoy a cool horse ride through beautiful mountain forests along Bald Mountain Creek.
Clean stables and friendly staff welcomed our arrival. David (owner) made sure everyone felt comfortable and prepared and Morgan (our guide) has such a fun personality...all made this ride truly unforgettable!! The horses were very well behaved - great "babysitter" horse gave confidence to my youngest (8), who had never ridden. Highly recommend Wolf Laurel Stables as a "must do" in the Asheville area!!

...found a great waterfall! The recent rains definitely helped make it more dramatic. The hike is easy, and only 1/2 mile out along a forest road.

We have attended several performances at this very quaint small town playhouse. It looks like a re-purposed barn though I believe it was previously a gymnasium. I uploaded a photo since I see nobody has yet however next time I will have to get a better one. I have enjoyed all the performances including the one we attended yesterday afternoon, "You Can't Take It With You". I dinged the place one star because it can get very uncomfortable in the heat though they have recently added a couple of those ductless air conditioners which seemed to help the seats on the sides of the auditorium. Not sure why they did not ran fans. I was impressed by their sophistication for such a small town venue. And of course, everyone is very friendly and courteous. I do not drink though I noticed that they even offer wine sales along with bottled water, soft drinks, popcorn and a small assortment of candy. I have noticed some are even dressed very casually in shorts and sandals. I have seen families at some of the performances suitable for younger ages. Living in a small town does not have to mean forgoing the arts, enjoy!

A beautiful layout for a golf course, but the course was grossly overbooked-to the point of taking 3 hrs to play 9 holes. Not only that, the course grass was like hitting every shot out of the rough. You almost couldn't hit a putt hard enough to get it to the hole.
They charged us full price for this misery! What a waste of a beautiful site, but I won't be going back here until I hear that the course is in playable condition.
Don't waste your time and money here anytime soon.

This is one of the last places that a family can go for a wonderful evening together without the worry of some rude and crude problems. Every movie is hand picked by the owner to be ones that families can enjoy together. We go very often and feel very lucky to have such a great place to see first run movies as a family.

This furniture is good older type furniture. They have bedroom suits, living room suits, kitchen tables...etc. I have bought several pieces from them over the years and always have had a great experience. I would recommend them to anyone.
