Started in 1981 by members of the Australian Rhododendron Society, North West Tasmanian branch and is now an independent, non-profit organisation. Maintained predominantly by volunteers, our vision is to be a world recognised woodland garden showcasing and protecting the Rhododendron genus. See over 22,000 rhododendrons and other select plants with beautiful walking tracks, lakes, bridges and our unique wildlife.
I was surprised and delighted by the wonderful display of Rhododendrons, totally managed and staffed by volunteers. The autumn colours were particularly beautiful in the Japanese section.

The penguin parade at the little penguin observatory in burnley was such a cool experience. It was very different from the Phillip Island penguin parade and felt a lot more natural. It was so nice to see people volunteering their own time so we could learn about the penguins and see them in their own habitat.

This is an amazing place to wander around. They have created a whole street just as it was so long ago. With sound & videos as well as thousands of artifacts its such a surprise & so well done Most of the items were collected by Peter Mercer who started collecting when he was a young boy and his collection got so big it took over and became a private museum before becoming the Burnie Regional Museum. The design is based on the Kirkgate Victorian Street in York, in the UK and is a fantastic collection of so many items!! See the Local Pub - The Emu Bay Inn. The Doctor, Livery Services,Coach Service, Newspaper Offices, Blacksmith, General Store & Post Office, Local Photographer, The Emu Bay Butter Factory, The Dental Surgery - Ouch!! Heaps more!! Really interesting & well worth seeing. Buy a souvenir catalogue - you wont regret it!! Have fun- heapsto learn
