National Maritime Museum

Reviewed By SunSeaSkyy - Pensacola, United States

I hoped this museum would be good - and it is. Bulgaria is not really known as a naval power, but the connection with the USSR during Bulgaria's communist era (1946-1990) is apparent in many of the displays. An excellent glimpse of Cold War history and technology! The history of Bulgaria's maritime operations on the Black Sea is also appealing and the displays and models are well done. Most of the signs include English. We visited on a Saturday in late April and had the place to ourselves - which was great. Entrance is 5 Lev ($2.85 USD) per adult. There is an additional fee (2 Lev) to go inside the small submarine on display outside. Well worth a visit if you in the area. Note the museum is located above the beach at the southern tip of the "Sea Garden" park or Primorski Park. The entire area is nice to walk around.
