At Bukit Lawang Tour we offer jungle treks suitable for everyone to make sure you will have an unforgettable experience. We are a group of friends and English speaking guides who recently started Bukit Lawang Tour. We are born and raised in the area and have excellent knowledge of the plants and animals living in the rainforest, which includes the Sumatran orangutan. All our guides are certified by the local ITGA-HPI (Indonesia Tourist Guides Association – Himpunan Pramuwisata Indonesia).

We arrange jungle trekking tours through the rainforest of Gunung Leuser National Park, starting from the village Bukit Lawang, located in northern Sumatra,Indonesia. It is one of the last places in the world where you have the unique chance to observe the rare Sumatran orangutan in his natural habitat. The Gunung Leuser National Park is further habitat for many other species of exotic animals, flowers and plants. Since 2004, the tropical rainforests of the Gunung Leuser National Park together with 2 more national parks on Sumatra, are part of the UNESCO World Heritage.
We travelled with Trailfinders. The organisation was superb. We had a guide for our 3-day stay called Gandar who was very knowledgeable and thoughtful. A ranger called Ayub was assigned for the Orang Utan trek; frankly he was a genius, we saw eight including one very close encounter. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend any aspect.

We started the business on a small scale. However, when we saw that the island of Sumatra was an attraction in the future, we decided to expand this area by providing various services to tourists from within and from outside the country.
The EcoTravel team is fantastic, taking care of every detail of the journey and giving comprehensive support during trips for a very reasonable price. Such a honest approach to the client and efforts to make the client satisfied are rare. It was an unforgettable and perfectly organized trip.

The Bat Cave is actually a series of 3 caves, which are accessed via a pleasant walk through forest and fields. You need a guide, however, as it would be easy to get lost in the system. Wear appropriate shoes, as you will not walk but scramble over boulders, rocks and slippery stones. There are also many insects such as scorpions and big spiders, so closed shoes and long pants are preferable. However, the caves are stunning. Some have an opening through which you can see the sky and vegetation. The last one is pitch dark. Bring headlamps or a good flashlight.
