The Mitre

A 10 minute walk from the centre of Buckingham takes you to the town's oldest pub. A cosy atmosphere is enhanced by a real open fire as well as a new log burner in winter. As you would expect from a free house, the Mitre has changing and interesting beers, featuring guests from all over the UK as well as local breweries such as Blackpit. Major sporting events are shown on the five large-screen Sky and BT TV and, if games clash, different matches can be shown at once. The pub also has a beautiful new piano which landlord Pete will regularly jump on to sing a few songs and many locals also play. Pete bought the pub in May 2017 and since then the toilets have been refurbished and a new oak bar and a new cellar chilling system installed with all new pipework. The land behind the previous garden has been extended and re-landscaped.

If you are ever in Buckingham looking for a good pub to go to it is worth stretching ones legs and make your way to The Mitre. Proper beer, guest ales, open fires, large garden, and a great atmosphere year round. Well worth it.

Old Gaol Museum

Visited the museum while staying in Buckingham - a lovely little town with lots going on there. The museum, although small, was most interesting and the building in which it is housed is unusual - looking like a small castle. The staff were exceptionally helpful - firstly on the day of our museum visit and then the following day to get advice at the Tourist Information bureau. We were told of two very interesting places to visit - great advice indeed.

The volunteers that work here were very welcoming and friendly and gave us a leaflet explaining the history of this lovely, old building. Such a nice atmosphere, a great place to sit and relax with a hot drink. We had a hot chocolate and a coffee, they were very nice and very reasonably priced. Also a great place to pick up a bargain book.
