Vlad the Impaler stated his claim to Bucharest in 1459. His citadel on the Dambovita was the first of flotillas of palaces, many of which still stand. Four subway lines and a modern bus network transport visitors and commuters. Nicknamed "Little Paris", Bucharest's elegant early 20th-century architecture shows French influences. Don't miss the Village Museum, Romanian Athenaeum and the Peasant Museum. You can't miss the Palace of Parliament, the second-largest building in the world (after the Pentagon).

History and memories ladden Cismigiu Gardens remains unblemished over quite a few lifetimes, more exactly since the eighteen's century. Like so many other parcs in Bucharest, it is loved and cherished as one of ots green oasis where people can stroll, jog, relax on a public bench, meet someone or simply pass through. However, Cismigiu is special with its large alleys guarded by old trees, with its manicured grass and colourful flowers, with its antique rows of seats, linked to each other along some paths, between the curves bridges over the lake and the rocky mountain in its middle.

Largest Park in Bucharest, for sure one of the main attractions in the city, definitely worth a visit. Nice for talking walks down by the river, have a picnic or even get a boat ride, it also has a few nice Restaurants where you can grab something to eat, also plenty of shops where you can get toys or suvenirs.

This is the third time that I have visited Carol Park. It's a beautiful park and you can get plenty of exercise walking around. During this visit it was still considered winter and most of the trees bare. During the spring and summer the park is absolutely gorgeous with many activities. The monument is absolutely stunning. There are always guards there to protect the tomb. See the attached photos. Carol Park is one of many parks in Bucharest and one of my favorites. Check it out.

One of the largest parks in Bucharest is an oasis of greenery and you can admire ducks, swans and peacocks. You can also visit the small islands of the park and you can take a water bike ride. It is near the Park Lake mall. It is very easy to reach by subway to Dristor or by tram (stations where you can get off Ramnicu Sarat, Voluntari, Matei Ambrozie or Campia Libertatii)

Regardless how people choose to spend their time in a parc, I found that this place (yes, folks of my age still call it the Ioanid Parc rather than Ion Voicu), this place offers a multitude of choices, for everone. First of all it has the most charming little lake with fountain and almost two hundred years old trees. Then, this parc has this amazing gazebo where moms gather for a chat while their children play, or seniors meet for the latest goship, or even youths stop for a stolen kiss. Lovely little place!!!

A simply wonderful nature reserve located in Bucharest, only a short distance from the city centre and easily accessible by metro. Once you climb down the steep perimeter concrete slope in to the basin you feel completely detached from the surrounding urban sprawl. Inside there are many species of flora and fauna (cormorants, lizards, toads, storks to name a few) many different routes to take, platforms for bird watching, numerous information boards and even some small sculptures dotted around. Aside from bird watching it is ideal for either walking, cycling or picnics and, if you do not want to travel a few hours from the city to experience beautiful Romanian nature, it is ideal.

One of the more striking things about this beautiful botanical garden is the fact that it is located right next to an industrial centre, complete with cooling towers, chimneys churning out everything nasty-looking, and nasty smells. That small problem aside, the garden is well kept and absolutely beautiful in the spring. While having a stroll, you'll come across impressive pine trees, a lily pond with waterfall and a herb garden. Bucharestians treat the gardens as a park, and on warm afternoons you may see more young lovers than plants. The huge glasshouses are open Tue, Thr, Sat, Sun, 09:00 - 13:00. Take bus 336 from Universitate to get there. Admission 10,000 lei (5,000 for children).
