We walked up to Golden Cap from Seatown, it’s about a mile up from the car park in Seatown. A fair climb, but this is the highest point on the south coast! We carried on past Golden Cap and turned right towards St Gabriel’s Wood, and right again back round past Langdon Hill where we did a circuit of the wood and then back down to Seatown. The entire walk was 4.5 miles and took us 1 hour 45 minutes.

James has been collecting fossils along the Jurassic Coast for over a decade; in that time, he has found new species of fossilised insect and helped recover the remains of large marine reptiles. James is passionate about all things fossil, no matter how big or small, he believes they each have a story to tell. James is keen to share his knowledge of the coast and promote safe and productive fossil hunting. Please get in touch if you'd like to book a walk: [email protected]

After a short break we are delighted to be opening again for Brewery Tours from 21st June 2021. Our draught ales win awards. Beer drinkers love them. They love the distinctive taste and delicious character. And the refreshing, thirst-quenching qualities of Palmers’ traditional ales. They love the fact we’re among the UK’s very best small independent brewers – and that we’ve been brewing fine ales non-stop since 1794. The original Old Brewery at Bridport in West Dorset is where we still work to traditional methods with the finest ingredients. Methods and ingredients that have built our reputation over 200 years. Today, we skilfully blend these best brewing rules with scientific systems, to create five quality ales for the 21st century.
Booked the brewery tour having read the reviews on trip advisor. My husband I weren’t disappointed. Very interesting tour and nice to sample the beer and a whisky and or gin at the end in a very well stocked shop. Guide and staff in shop very friendly.

A vineyard and winery making world-class still and sparkling wine from Champagne grape varieties grown on site. Open for sales and tastings 11am till 5pm on Monday to Saturday. Tours of the vineyard and winery on Fridays and Saturdays at 11am and 2.30pm through out the year plus tours on Wednesdays from June to the end of September.
The tour was really interesting. I thought our host kept things lively and interesting - enough facts balanced with anecdotes. He was welcoming and managed all the group's questions and queries. We had a short wine tasting afterwards - 2 still whites and one sparkling. Delicious wines - I was lucky to be able to buy a couple of bottles which I'm saving for a treat in the dull winter months! I particularly liked their Bacchus Dry. I twisted hub's arm to visit for a vineyard tour - to be fair I booked it and paid - he drove. Wanted to do this tour for ages but need a designated driver as the location is away from public transport. We did consider walking there from Lyme Regis but I didn't fancy walking back afterwards! This was the Classic tour at £15 a head which included the tasting of three wines. There is a also a Grand Tour - maybe next time... It's a beautiful setting - I'd have happily chilled out in the vineyard with a bottle or two...Great place - well worth a visit.

Great afternoon at the centre. Went with a friend and our teenage sons for one of the military rifle shooting packages. Top quality facilities and a very friendly bunch of people. The Centre provides information on fossils, fossil hunting and the local coastal and marine wildlife. Facilities at the centre include interactive computers, hands on displays, marine tanks and a video microscope, all of which can help you to discover more about our stretch of the coastline. You will always find a helpful warden or volunteer who can help you identify your fossil finds. The Centre also has disabled access. Our Jurassic Theatre shows a short film on 'The Jurassic Coast and Finding fossils at Charmouth' (adults £1, children 50p). We also have a shop stocked with books for all levels, including some of our own publications, toys and souvenirs. Throughout the year we run guided fossil hunting walks and rockpooling walks along the local coastline. The Centre also has an extensive education programme. For information about the activities we have to offer to school groups please see our Primary Schools and Secondary Schools sections.
We loved this. Amazing fossil hunting guides who were patient, encouraging and enthusiastic (especially Dan) have turned my little girl into a modern day Mary Anning. We found a load of fossils and our children (5&4) are now completely fired up potential palaeontologists (as are their Mum and Dad). Thanks very much Charmouth Heritage Centre!
