A park within easy driving distance from Hendersonville that offers hiking, camping and fishing.
brief overnight camping at Lake Powhatan. Didn't get to explore much, but had solitude and a cozy campsite.

By joining us in our downtown Gem Mine - full of precious gems from private mine shafts around the world - you're able to mine for your own gemstones and try your luck at striking it rich! Super fun hour. Holden, the man who helped us, was very generous with his time and expertise. We found some nice things in our ruby, sapphire, emerald bucket but I was most excited about the tiny fossil flowers I found. My daughter liked the sapphires the best:).

Pretty and easy drive up through the forest to the falls. Once there you can see the falls perfectly from where you park (which was no problem this time of year), but an easy walk down the steps to the bottom. The ranger station/gift shop was closed on weekends, which surprised me -- when do they think people are up there??

There is ample parking and only a very short walk to the falls, plus you also see Batson Creek Falls. Both are somewhat small.

Graveyard Fields has an interesting history. Many years ago all of the trees were blown over then eventually getting covered with dirt making them look like grave mounds. It is quite overgrown now and not as pretty when the leaves are off the trees but still a very nice and relatively easy hike. You do have several very muddy areas and climb up and climb down areas. When we were just there and part of the falls were frozen as were dripping walls along the way and along the road. It was a nice hike and we enjoyed it. About 1.5 hours from Greenville, SC.
Cheers!!!

A microbrewery in downtown Brevard. A nice selection of beers that taste more of the German style. The bartender is very friendly and knowledgeable about the various selections. A quiet atmosphere so it's easy to hold a conversation. Seating available at the bar and some tables.

The Art Loeb Trail. Stretches for 30 miles. Closest to Asheville it crosses the highway at Milepost 420, about 30 min from Asheville NC. Spectacular view from Black Balsam Knob and Tennent Mountain.
This is a 33 mile hike from the bottom land near Davidson Creek campground in the Pisgah National Forest near Brevard all the way up over the Blue Ridge Parkway and into the Shining Rock Wilderness. It is a beautiful trail, but with rocks and roots and considerable elevation gain. You can hike sections of it and get a feel for the experience without doing the whole thing. If you are in shape and up for the challenge it will give you a taste of the Appalachian Trail in a compact 33 mile package.

If you enjoy rummaging around in an antique store...this is the place! So much to look at and enjoy!! This is the 2nd time my husband and I have been there and I know we will return on a future visit. My husband purchased more then I did this time, but even if you don't buy anything, it is fun to look around and explore

Some really neat stuff to learn and very nice people to tell you all about the area. It's amazing to learn how much of an impact the local camps have had on the area.
