Srebrenica Genocide Memorial

Reviewed By GeysirGal - Surrey, United Kingdom

I am no stranger to concenration camps, having viisted a few across Eastern Europe, and I realise of course that Srebenica is not one of these. It is nevertheless the scene of one of the most heinous war crimes in history - which is well documented. This is why it is so important to have places such as this which are open for those who wish to visit. It forms an important part of both history and education for future and current generations. This place was then for me increidbly moving - I was lucky in that when I arrived with my own private guide, a large tour group had preceeded me and was having a talk by one of the survivors. It was both an honour and a privilige to see this man talk about his experiences. The memorial site itself is so very moving with rows upon rows of gravestones, shining and white in the sunshine - it is both ironic and symbolic that this colour, which symbolises life and purity was chosen in the midst of such pain and suffering. Go there if you can.

Going to the top of the mountain is a must during your trip. Climbing with a cane is much easier considering if your trip companions are aged. Flow the lamp for an easy climb and descent.

Statue Of the Queen of Peace

Reviewed By Moiad-CarolKeith

The statue is almost life-like in appearance and conveys serene beauty. People place flowers, pictures, and notes at the feet of Our Lady Queen of Peace to pay her homage and ask for intervention and assistance with life’s issues. The statue is not adored, but reverently honoured as a reflection of the Blessed Mother Mary.

Crooked Bridge (Kriva Cuprija)

Reviewed By GeysirGal - Surrey, United Kingdom

Tucked away in a little side street behind the main drag, this bridge is every bit as beautiful and graceful as the famous one - and much less frequented. There are many shops and restaurants around the area as you would expect and it is particularly good to visit at night - and perfectly safe for a woman on her own.

Sarajevo Memorial for Children Killed during Siege

Reviewed By KhawajaJack

This somber but lovely memorial and surrounding park must be visited and contemplated by any visitor to Sarajevo who intends to go away with any kind of basic understanding of the suffering and pain of the Siege of Sarajevo and the impact that this has had on the city, nation and the world.
