Central Park's best known feature among the younger set is the Rocket, which is a great adventure to climb; it also has an extra-long slide. The gardens have lush foliage, meandering paths and 'green rooms' for photography. Since they were established in 1900, the gardens have had their ups and downs, but they remain one of Hawthorn's favorite places; the gardens can be hired for functions.

Maybe the most important thing is to get to the viewing platform just before sunset. We were a little early, not wanting to miss the action, and basically they all hang around doing very little. However, once the sun sets within around half an hour later they all start flying around, the noise and spectacular sight is something you don’t often see!

A great park for a dog walk - flanked by the Yarra River and well away from any roads and with an opportunity for an energetic walk around the paths or a game of social cricket or football in the centre of the park and a playground for the little kids.

Playground is safety fenced, so no issue with young kids wandering off too far unless they are specifically let out. There is an automated public toilet- but only one. Would be great if council installed a second toilet. There are BBQ with sheltered areas, newly installed shading cloth sails, and a huge expanse of playground equipment from traditional swings and spinners, to a long boardwalk and climbing ropes. There is a small skate park suitable for younger and older kids, plus a basketball court. Popular park for kids parties and celebrations. Gardiners creek trail just nearby behind the park.

These gardens are beautiful!!! Worth taking a walk through, or you can sit on the grass and relax. I can recommend.
