We went to Alexander's for the Valentine's Day brunch buffet. The nice thing is that you don't have to be a member to eat at the restaurant. The building is beautiful and has a great view. Service was friendly and prompt, and the food was really good for a reasonable price. I was somewhat confused that there was not a buffet as advertised, but three brunch specials and the regular lunch menu (which was very different than the one posted online). We weren't sure we were in the right place; signage was not very clear. And for Valentine's Day brunch the place was really empty, only two other tables were filled. Aside from the menu options being different than expected, we were really pleased! Will likely be back when it's warmer to sit on the patio and enjoy the view!

We went by on a Thursday afternoon, and was disappointed that they were only open on Saturdays. Still, they have a lot of rolling stock that is on the grounds, so we were able to take pictures. Liked what we got to see.

My wife is buried here in the Fort Jackson National Cemetary. It is superbly maintained and administered. If you bring flowers the have containers and vases to place them at the grave site at no charge. Parking is ample. This Cemetary is an example of government at its best. Every one of my interactions with the management of this Cemetary was professional, caring, and geared to assist me.

Sesquicentennial State Park

My wife and I rented sea kayaks for the eclipse 100% totality viewing experience which did happen!!! The lake was beautiful and natural. The Park Rangers in charge of the rentals did a great job considering the park was full to capacity. After the viewing of the eclipse was over we rode the Mountain bike trailwhich was something like 5.6 miles through an expansive wooded switchback trail system. It reminded me a little of riding by the ocean and some parts because of the sand that was present. The trails are marked well and I would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a intermediate mountain bike trail. After we finished we purchased some drinks at the main office and prices are good. All-around good experience for a day trip.

Oak Hills Golf Club

Oak Hills Golf Club Columbia SC

I was in Columbia visiting my son. He's going to Summer School at the University of South Carolina, and he arranged for us to golf at Oak Hills. The course was beautiful and in good condition; the weather was good (and hot), and we finished 18 holes in 4h 15min -- excellent pace of play.

We were glad we came and want to come back.

The greens had been aerated probably 2 weeks ago. The little holes were filled in, but still visible. We found the greens big, fast and putted true. One green had damage from tire tracks; otherwise really pretty good.

The whole course was green.

The fairways were good, but not flat. The course winds its way up and down the hillsides, and a flat lie is hard to find. The cart paths twist, turn and climb sometime so steeply, the cart driver needs to pay attention for safety reasons. Some of the cart paths were damaged and made for a rough ride for the golf cart riders.

The fairways were wide enough for average golfers. A couple of times our drives went into the trees. The ground cover is sparse enough that we were able to find our balls. The roughs weren't bad, and we never lost a ball because the grass was too thick.

Overall, I would say this course welcomes average golfers.

There's a big beautiful lake on the course; it only comes into play on a few holes. Otherwise, there are a few creeks that run across the course. We lost balls in the creek a couple of times, mostly because we didn't realize it was there. The creek was mostly dry, but it was so deep, sometimes we just left our ball behind.

On the back nine, you can see evidence of the flood damage from the hurricane back in October. Much of this has been repaired and not a factor for the player, but when asking the nice person at the proshop, the course was closed for over a month last October. He said they were lucky; it could have been much worse. It's recovered nicely!

For our 1pm tee time, the course was not busy. We briefly checked in at the proshop, loaded our golf cart and took off -- without a starter; pretty much self service. The course had water coolers every few holes; the snack shop was well stocked with drinks and fast to-go food. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming!

The course is about 25 minutes North of campus.

we went to the irmo plex off of Peak exit. Was disappointed we had been given 2 passes to come back and jump but they said ice skate on front and no manager signed them, so I paid $15 for my nephew to jump 45 minutes, I was told to bring sox. But we had to buy their sox. I am disabled and cannot do the computer. But they had no ADA procedures in place. Computers on high tables and worker refused to type for me. So my nephew typed in the release and I was very upset and embarrassed since the ice skating side was so accommodating and had a clip board/paper for me to sign, there was a birthday party downstairs so no ADA seating, the others were up a flight of stairs on second level or up stairs by the activities on couches. Truly no customer service in this new area . Plus no water fountain for the kids in the area

Great Escape SC was a lot of fun! The owners were very helpful with booking our reservations. The space is nice and has parking, which is a plus. The game was thought-provoking and a great team builder for lifelong friends or new acquaintances! The location is great because there are several restaurants and shopping centers in the area to grab a bite to eat afterward. #gogamecocks
