Cranbrook House and Gardens

Incredible vistas at every turn, the relaxing melody of water streaming out of several iconic fountains, the comforting smell of flowers in one of the many remarkable gardens, the feeling of history and architectural wonder all around you…just a taste of what awaits at Cranbrook House and Gardens, a National Historic Landmark. Cranbrook House is a 1908 estate designed in the Arts & Crafts style by noted Detroit architect, Albert Kahn, for the founders of Cranbrook, newspaper mogul George Gough Booth and his wife, Ellen Scripps Booth. From spring through fall, guests can tour the oldest manor home in metro-Detroit and the beautiful 40 acres of gardens that surround it; both maintained brilliantly by a non-profit, volunteer run organization, Cranbrook House and Gardens Auxiliary. We invite you to explore our historic estate, take a tour, join a program or attend an event. Members/volunteers and donations are always welcome as well. We hope you enjoy your time at Cranbrook House and Gardens and thank you in advance for visiting!

The gardens are absolutely spectacular. They are well maintained and beautiful. The setting is very special. The home is majestic and the spacious grounds provide so many places to pause and take in the entire experience. A walk around the grounds is such a wonderful respite from all the stresses of life. If you haven't been there, go. You will go back over and over again.

Cranbrook Art Museum

Cranbrook Art Museum invites viewers to discover relevant and transformative moments in modern and contemporary art, architecture, and design. Through our exhibitions, collections, programming, and publications, we bring together people from our region and around the world to provoke new ideas about art, creativity, and the built environment. We achieve this at Cranbrook Educational Community, a National Historic Landmark campus, where the pursuit of knowledge and innovation is paramount.

Cranbrook is best appreciated as an entire campus. None of the individual elements is best in class, but as a total experience, it is unforgettable. It's a cultural wonderland of sorts with museums, great architecture, and art scattered amongst beautifully cultivated grounds and gardens. Truly, there is nowhere else in the world quite like it. That said, the individual components themselves aren't always extraordinary. The art museum is a case in point. There is a permanent collection, but it is not usually on display. The public has access to temporary exhibits, which are of uneven quality. Your enjoyment of the museum will depend upon your interest in the temporary exhibits, which were quite intriguing during my visit. Confirm that you're interested in the temporary exhibits before going. Though the museum itself is hit or miss, the architectural complex is extraordinary. On a beautiful day with the fountains in full effect, the beauty envelops you. It's a true must see for any lover of architecture and design. It is hard to tear yourself away. I will definitely return.

Franklin Cider Mill

A Family Tradition The Franklin Cider Mill is a one-of-a-kind living piece of history. We take pride in our family-friendly atmosphere and strive to provide exceptional service. We press and bottle our own cider right here at the Mill! Each side of the press can hold up to sixty bushels of apples. Our cider season opens Labor day weekend and usually remains open until the first weekend after Thanksgiving. The donuts sold at the Mill are an old German recipe brought to this country many years ago. Our cider is NOT filtered, NOT pasteurized, and does NOT contain any form of preservative. It is a pure fruit juice and MUST be kept refrigerated Labels and business names similar to ours are now being used by others and are undoubtedly confusing to our customers. Please remember that there is only one outlet for our products, which is . . . THE FRANKLIN CIDER MILL!

Still the classic best cider of any of the cider Mills in the Detroit area. Incredible cider, great donuts, when hot, and they are always given to you hot....
