Blackrock Park

Reviewed By Catherine494932 - Paris, France

this is a great park to chill out in. beside the sea, next to the Dart line, easy access to food, shops etc. there is a lake and a child's play-ground. colourful flowers and well kept. the onus is on us, the visitors to keep this clean and safe for all.

The Blackrock Dolmen Sculpture

When the figures are decorated with red scarves and hats this sculpture really lifts the spirits much more than Christmas lights would do. the three figures represent male, female and A.N. Other. Rowan Gillespie is the artist and he has done many tasteful sculptures around Dublin

St. John the Baptist Church

Reviewed By permia

Just over a decade after Catholic Emancipation this marvellous church was conceived with the laying of a foundation stone on the feast of John the Baptist in 1842. Three years later it was consecrated by the Archbishop of Dublin. It is as majestic today as it must have been back then. Wonderful stone work of the facades in the Gothic Revival style, likely influenced by the famous Pugin, is the first feature we saw on approach. A grand tower with pinnacles is marvellous. The interior is delightful. A vision through the nave is breathtaking, leading the eye to the superb altar. Behind it is an exquisite sculpture of nine statues, depicting Bearers of the Word. At its centre is Our Lady with eight holy saints to her left and right. Standing on a semi arch is a powerful crucifix in front of a Rose window. A terrific feature is the patterned ceiling of a deep blue hue. Vibrant stained glass windows are radiant. The lovely pulpit with canopy is of carved stone. To the rear is a tremendous balcony with a twin organ in the centre of which is a grand stained glass, all above the impressive entrance area.
