A professional designer goldsmith for 45 years, ROBERTO VENGOECHEA’S Avant-Garde collection showcases futuristic and innovative designs which defy the conventional forms and genres, yet are practical in their form and fit. Challenging acceptable 21st century jewelry traditions, with square, architectural and geometric shapes, these unusual designs push the boundaries of ‘thinking outside the box.’ “Like Gaudi, I like to fuse organic with architectural design in a futuristic manner. I consider myself a sculptor first and a jeweler second.” Vengoechea opened his Gallery and studio in 1996, located in Black Mountain, NC. Browse this quaint, artisan-owned gallery in a museum-quality setting, with recessed shadow boxes which entice the viewer to study the contents of each box. His work is also available in select galleries in North Carolina. Vengoechea also teaches tourists and visitors a popular hands-on 1 day workshop (by appointment – 2 people per class) where each participant takes home their own hand-made work. “It’s all about the experience” as well as being lots of fun.
A couple of months ago we were in Black Mountain and stopped into the Visions of Creation Gallery. We looked at the beautiful jewelry that the had and got to talking to Roberto and June, the owners. Roberto has been creating fine jewelry for over 35 years and had several incredible rings and necklaces on display. However, one of the things he offered was a ring making class. With my wife's birthday coming up I decided that we should return and take the class. We both love rings and this would be something that she could say she made herself. The class takes about 8 hours and Roberto and June both make it a fun experience. Roberto helped us design the rings we wanted and then worked with us from start to finish, explaining each step of the way. By the time we were finished we not only had a beautiful hand crafted ring to take with us but also a good working knowledge of what goes into creating it. While that was exciting in itself, spending the day with Roberto and June was really what made the day as fun as it was. They both are such warm and friendly people. When we were done, they gave us a small graduation party complete with campaign and chocolates. We sat there for a long time just talking and having a very nice time. If you want to create a keepsake and have an amazing time then contact them and schedule a class. They can only do 2 people at a time and it is great for a couples event.

Enjoy a touch of Europe in the heart of Black Mountain's historic district. Europa offers fine and handmade gifts from 17 European countries, including Polish pottery, Scottish tartan accessories, German pewter and wooden ornaments, French soaps, and Italian Murano glass. Try a taste of Europe with Scottish and English teas, Swiss and German chocolates, and Austrian marzipan.
Europa is a small shop on Cherry Street with a wonderful collection of unique items; Their merchandise is mostly imported from various countries in Europe, or made in the USA in the style of traditional European crafts. The owners are wonderful people who periodically travel to Europe to find new merchandise. My wife's favorite items are the hand decorated eggs and the beautiful wooden Christmas Pyramids. Of course they have a nice selection of ornaments for your tree. They also have have Polish pottery, Scottish tartan plaids. British & German beer mugs, Oktoberfest shirts, Swiss Army Knifes, smoking pipes, and much more. Just a fascinating place to shop.

A unique gallery of Art and Handcrafts. All items are locally and regionally hand made by our talented grouping of artists. Come and view our selections of jewelry, pottery, original art, wood carvings, glass work, and a variety of other hand made items. Mountain Nest has a wonderful serene environment you will love spending time in. A gallery of beautiful art you will remember.
This is my favorite art/gift store in Black Mountain. The art is unique, beautiful and affordable. That it is done by local artists makes it even better. I received a painting from Teresa Hall from here a year ago and wanted to purchase another from her. There wasn’t currently a complimentary piece in the store so the owner of Mountain Nest facilitated me being able to purchase a very special piece from the artist to “match” the one I own. Wonderful communication from the shop and an obvious passion for their artists. Thank you! Make sure to visit this wonderful store when in Black Mounaint

We had a blast escaping from the USS McCoy!!! Our family of 5 worked together, all of varying ability and skill, using a couple of clues, and laughter and fun, to pull off a great time. The excitement built with each lock and door that opened! John was so friendly and probably more excited about our experience than we were. He gave us great feedback (which we have never gotten anywhere else) about what he thought was awesome about what we did by name. GREAT personal experience and had us excited the whole walk back to the hotel and I’m sure for days to come ???????????????????? We will come back when we come back to town!

We enjoyed the last nights of the outdoor firepits before they were packed up for the season. The outdoor area has plenty of tables so that you can distance from each other. We didn't get a good idea of the Lookout craft brews due to the line being shut down for a changeover to an upgraded brewing system going in. We knew this because the bartenders and regulars apologized to us for the limited selection. The locals were very friendly and welcoming.
