300 m from city centre and from Berlins hotel is this very nice and reserved ruine. We have visited at evening, nicely lightened. Within day is worth to go around and climb on the tower. View is beautiful.

The upper castle was built by the by Margrave Hermann II around the year 1100. Under Margrave Bernhard I of Baden (1372-1431) was the Gothic lower castle, which was extended by Margrave James I (1431-1453). It's a little walk from the parking lot, it's a slight uphill, but literally 5 minutes and you're in the castle. When we were there, no one else was, 8:00 PM on a Thursday evening. The restaurant at the base of the castle had people in it. We loved roaming around and imagining how it must have been in medieval times. Keep wandering too, you can go all the way to the top tower with unbelievably gorgeous views. This place was free and it was unforgettable. Lots of scaffolding and reconstruction work was happening when we were there in late June of 2019.

Rastatt Favorite Palace is the oldest German "porcelain palace" and the only one to survive almost unchanged to this day. Its opulent interiors, extensive collections and idyllic setting lend it significance on a European scale!

This scenic castle sits atop a mountain and you will be rewarded for the walk up the hill with truly spectacular views. The ruins are surrounded by vineyards and there is a fruit garden nearby. The walk is not as difficult as it looks and many older people made it to the top without any problem.

Whilst on a Scenic River Cruise we were treated to a wonderful short concert of classical music and opera in this beautiful building. What we saw of the building was spectacular especially the ceilings. I wish we could have visited in the daytime to enjoy a tour of the historic palace.
