About 15 miles southeast of Perugia lies the lovely walled town of Bevagna, which, happily for travel-weary hill-climbing legs, is basically flat relative to other area towns. Can’t-miss sights include the 12th-century Palazzo dei Consoli (Palace of the Consuls) and the churches of St. Sylvester and St. Michael Arcangel, both also dating from the 12th century. The Madonna of the Snow was built atop a Roman temple ruin. The Mercato delle Gaite, a major medieval festival, happens every June.

A visit to Tenuta Castelbuono is a journey into the world of art and wine. The Carapace, the winery designed by Arnaldo Pomodoro, is the first sculpture in the world in which one lives and works simultaneously. Dionigi Cellar has been producing wine since 1896 when Gabriele moved with his family, from Assisi to these picturesque hills in the town of Bevagna. Spotted immediately the types of crops better suited to these lands: the olive and the vine; there is, in fact, a particular balance including altitude, climate and soil that make it highly appreciated the products therefrom. Over the years, we were selected varieties which are best adapted and then the techniques to transform the products in oil D.O.P. and wines D.O.C.G. from the body and unmistakable flavor. The red of Montefalco Sagrantino di Montefalco in sweet and dry versions, but also the generous Grechetto dei Colli Martani, as well as other excellent varieties. Still the descendants of Gabriele cultivate these hills with the spirit of always seeking to constantly improve the quality of its products, for their and other people's pleasure.
