We went with a group from the county parks and recreation program and were pleasantly surprised by the entire experience. This is no small operation. There were about 2000 people going through the facility the Monday night that we were there for the dinner/Christmas light hayride. The family style dinner was excellent and plentiful and the hayride was spectacular. Everything was well run accept for the two restrooms outside of the restaurant. We traveled over 3 hours in a van and had to use restrooms that only had two toilets for everyone to use and the toilets were such that when the outside door of the restroom was opened you were sitting totally exposed to those passing by. Outside of that, everything was great. The lights are not to be missed.

If you enjoy wine, this is a must do stop if you are anywhere near. It is what you want to see from a small family owned vineyard. The mother is behind the counter, the brother is bottling wine, and the daughter is helping you sample their wines. The atmosphere is inviting with hand painted floors that resemble slate (which mother painted) and a store with a nice selection of merchandise. For $5, you can sample ten wines. If you are visiting the area, you need to try the Muscadine wines. Yes they are sweet, but give yourself a chance to fall in love with something really Southern. Want to stop by and enjoy a glass of their wine under the shade trees?

We traveled to Liberty Hall in Kenansville NC recently and really enjoyed it. The tour guide was great - you could tell he loved his job and telling us about the history of the house, land and the people of owned it. The house and its furnishings were well preserved and gave us a glimpse of the occupants' past life. The grounds were well kept and the dogwood trees were in bloom - just beautiful. What a relaxing afternoon.

Whether you are looking to host your next company luncheon at the Mad Boar Renaissance Room, a formal charity gala at the ballroom in the River Landing Clubhouse, or a family reunion at the River Lodge, River Landing can accommodate any size group and any type of event. Our community was built on the value of under promising and over delivering, and this value shines through in every event our team produces. Accommodations are also available for your guests traveling from out of town. Not only will River Landing exceed your expectations, but your guests will be raving about you afterwards.
Our stay in the Cape Jasmine Suite in the Clubhouse was wonderful. This full sized suite, beautifully appointed, with high ceilings, enormous entry with half bathroom, sprawling living/dining, full contemporary kitchen with enough dish and glassware for entertaining, spacious bedroom with two separate sitting areas, over sized master bath and dressing area, and balcony with sweeping views of the golf course and lakes. Everything was sparkling clean when we arrived. Definitely a magnificent stay!
The restaurant on the main floor of the clubhouse is pleasant and the food okay.

A friend came across this little gem and recommended we make the trip up to see it. It's about an hour north of us, and I wasn't really sure I wanted to drive all that way for what usually amounts to more-driving-than-playing. What a wonderful surprise this place was!!
Parking is across the street in a roped off area. It's big enough to not have to worry about where to park, and clearly marked.
Admission is $5/person, kids under 3 are free. The corn maze and play area are included in that price. The hay ride is to a field that is just pumpkins set in a field, but my kids didn't care and it was a nice ride. Pumpkins were $5.
The play area: a huge sandbox with toddler sized toys, a big swing set, a bigger play area for older kids, a dirt "mountain" the kids loved climbing. A huge stack of tractor tires that was secured somehow that they could climb on. A little round room with chalkboard walls they could color all over. A display of farm animals (they are not a petting zoo). I was sad my kids didn't get to pet them, but understand that people aren't always gentle with animals). Picnic tables and charcoal grills were available. Soda and water were available for purchase for $1.
And that corn maze! It took us over an hour to get through it!! They have hidden objects out there (this year is planets), and they give you a card with numbers to punch as you find each planet. The adults and the kids we came across were having so much fun running around and looking for those numbers.
We spent 3 hours at the farm. My kids had so much fun and are asking to go back. The owners are genuine people who (I think) have poured their heart and soul in to this place. It is absolutely worth the drive .
I'm really hoping they do something fun for Christmas!

Actual name is "Riverside Barn Antiques." Great place to go if you enjoy browsing antiques and vintage items. There are a lot more items in here than you will think when you pull up in the parking lot. You can definitely spend several hours browsing in here if you enjoy antiques, Less than a 10 minute drive from I-40 exit on NC Hwy 41 east. Follow road signs towards Chinquapin and Beulaville. This antique store is only about 5 or 7 miles from I-40 and will be on your right coming from I-40. It is in a rural area and sits off the highway so you will need to pay attention to not go past it, If you go on a Saturday afternoon, be sure to check out "The Pink Supperhouse" which you will pass on your left about a mile before you get to "Riverside Barn Antiques." "The Pink Supperhouse" is a community run restaurant that is only open on Saturdays except for it is closed around holidays. You can enjoy some good Eastern NC BBQ Pork, Fried Chicken, Hush Puppies and various side items here. Go in front to eat in or go to the back door to order to go plates. The BBQ Pork is cooked fresh onsite every Friday night through Saturday morning, it is not precooked or previously frozen BBQ Pork!

The first time we drove there it was closed so all we could do was look in the windows. This time everything was open and the museum had some tools and other objects we have never seen before (and we go to a lot of museums).
The museum is in the Kelly-Farrior house (ca. 1848) and is adjacent to a historical park with an old school house, tobacco barn, blacksmith, log cabin, and general store. They also have part of a cart that was used to move stones for the construction of the Washington Monument.
I would not go on a day after a rain because there are some drainage problems and the ground can be very very wet.

Walton's Distillery is a craft distillery making Moonshine, Whiskey and Bourbon. It is a full production facility with daily activities related to the mashing, fermentation, distillation and bottling of spirits. Tours offer a very thorough understanding of the process and the unique experience of seeing a functioning moonshine still. Free tastings of all Walton's products are offered and the facility has a gift shop which has lots of antiques and souvenirs.
This is a really neat tour, a lot of information that was very interesting. Person giving the tour and presentation knew the information well. Probably wouldn’t be interesting for young children but our teenager though got it was cool.

Do you like horses? Come horseback riding with us! We promise it won't be one of those rides where you go to a big stable & ride in a line for a half hour with people walking with you. . . We'll take you real trail riding. Just you in control. Walking, trotting, cantering... you're in control to ride however you want.
DM Outdoors is a fantastic place to go for an authentic trail ride on horseback. The website tells no lies about what you are getting ready to experience. You can truly ride how you choose, and pointers are given to less experienced riders in order to keep them safe and help them better understand the horse they are on. Within the first few minutes on the trail, my daughter and I had done more than all the years of horse camp I paid for my daughter to attend. You do everything from walk to gallop to splashing through the water. The scenery is beautiful and if your experience is anything like that of my daughter and I, you are guaranteed to be grinning ear to ear the entire time. I also lost a very expensive watch during the ride and the owner and his family were nice enough to ride back through the trail. Not only did they find the watch, they brought it back to me, which speaks highly of their honesty. We definitely recommend DM Outdoors to anyone looking for a great time and we plan on going back for more. Thank you for giving my daughter and I an awesome day!
From very satisfied customers,
Debra and Hannah Melton
