The obvious reason to travel to Bethlehem is to visit the Church of the Nativity in Manger Square. The city's outskirts contain Shepherds' Fields and the intriguing Mar Saba Monastery.

Bassem's gift shop and olive wood factory is really the best in Bethlehem. Everything is made with a lot of care, attention to detail, and prices are very reasonable. Unlike in the countless other gift shops where their only goal is to make you spend as much money as possible, Bassem doesn't put any pressure on you, but offers helpful advice and is very accommodating. He has a great panoramic view available to see, as well as his olive wood factory which is super interesting. Overall, if you're looking to buy gifts in the Holy Land to take back with you, this is the place to buy them!

Joseph Giacaman, his sister Angela and his sons Elias and Peter are one of the oldest Christian families in Bethlehem; who own and operate the Holy Land Arts Museum souvenir shop and its Olive Wood and Mother of Pearl factory. My father Elias I. Giacaman (1910 – 1992) opened his own Mother of Pearl workshop in the year 1925, few years later it expanded to include the Olive Wood factory, till now our family is still running both of the factories and the souvenir shop. Our Shop and factory are located in the Manger Square in Bethlehem, few meters away from the Nativity church.

I - in my late sixties - bought a hoodie with a design made by Banksy on the side of a nearby petrol station. It is someone apparently dressed as a terroist and about to throw - what at first glance could be a Molotov Cocktail but is in fact a bunch of flowers. Some of the graffiti on this huge wall are witty and evocative, especially those by Banksy. He also has a small hotel - the Walled Off Hotel (get the pun?) - just across the road.
