What to do and see in Belmont, North Carolina (NC): The Best Things to do

November 23, 2021 Augustus Redeker

Belmont is a small suburban city in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States, located about 15 miles (24 km) west of uptown Charlotte and 9 miles (14 km) east of Gastonia. The population was 10,076 at the 2010 census. Once known as Garibaldi Station, the name change for Belmont is disputed. Some say it was named for a prominent New York banker - August Belmont. Others contend the Pope ordered the abbot of the monastery to change the name since he would not tolerate an abbey in a place that bore the Garibaldi name. The abbot could see Crowder's mountain from the property and named the town Belmont - "beautiful mountain". Belmont is home to Belmont Abbey College.

I meet some friends on a rainy Saturday afternoon for the tour and tasting. Was quite surprised to have some excellent rum. Not a big fan of the silver rum (1st tasting) but everything after was completely amazing. The basil was my favorite and the Queen Reserve. Very impressed with the coconut and spiced. If you are looking for a great rum for eggnog, their spiced would fit the bill and then some. Keep your shot glass! Owner gave the tour which was great hearing the history.

Extensive photo collection. Discovered a rare photo of my great grandfather. Good place for genealogical research if you're searching for relatives in the area.

Visiting the garden for their holiday celebration was truly a delight! It was so wonderful to walk around and enjoy the beautiful light displays and enjoy a bite to eat from the food truck and a holiday libation. Mask wearing and social distancing were adhered to by staff and visitors. Many families enjoyed toasting s’mores by the fire pit. The gift shop is well stocked and a good place to find Christmas gifts. Lovely evening!
