We've heard Toronto described as "New York City run by the Swiss," and it's true—you can find world-class theater, shopping and restaurants here, but the sidewalks are clean and the people are friendly. The best place to start is literally at the top—the CN Tower, the tallest freestanding structure in the Western Hemisphere.

Designed by a famous Finnish architect, this modern building is home to the Toronto City Council.
Built in the 1960s this unusual looking building has featured in quite a few tv shows and movies. It is a very functional building housing the City Council.

My husband and I wanted to have the cliche experience of skating at Nathan Phillips square. We are so glad we made time for this! Skate rentals are $10/adult. The line seemed long, but went quickly. We didn’t rent a locker. It appeared as though everyone just leaves their boots at the side of the rink... which made us fearful they would get stolen, but as it turns out, our fears were unwarranted. The rink was lit up for Christmas, and so pretty. It was busy, but we didn’t mind. The ice is soft and a bit bumpy, but that is to be expected for most outdoor rinks. Pro tip: if you want a selfie with the Toronto sign in the background, there is a platform on top of the skate rental building. :) There were lots of vendors, so you won’t go hungry!

Yonge-Dundas Sqaure is Toronto's answer to Time Square in New York. It's spacious and very inviting. It's somewhat of an oasis in the middle of downtown away from all the tall buildings and hustle and bustle of the crowds and traffic. You can also get some great pictures here. And to top it off during the warmer weather it offers some excellent concerts, events, and even free movies.

Just north of front between Bay and Yonge Street - a short block from Union Station. Nicest lobby/galleria of all Toronto Towers (Scotia Plaza a close second). Home to Marche, the Hocket Hall of Fame and Hocket themed Tim Horton's and my favorite newspaper stand on the Yonge Street Side. Please dont miss it and please let me know, if you liked it!!
