Cumberland County Museum & Archives

This museum houses a lot of our towns rare artifacts. I was very impressed with so many articles. One has to go upstairs to see all of them. As my grandmother Hickey worked here, I was very interested in the old pictures, however, I did not see her in any of them. I was also acting as Sir Charles Tupper on one occasion and his hope was on Victoria St. in Amherst.

Jost Vineyards

Jost Vineyards is situated on over 100 acres by the beautiful North Shores Sunrise Trail. With the largest and longest operating winery in the Atlantic region, the Jost family pioneered the industry, supporting the majority of today's independent vineyard operations. Their estate bottled whites, reds and specialties are lovingly crafted in the cellars and are available for sampling, sale and shipping from the winery store. Hike, bike and picnic with spectacular vistas of the vineyards and beautiful beaches of the Northumberland coastline. The area enjoys a mezzo climate with more days of sun than anywhere else in Atlantic Canada. Enjoy local cheeses with a perfectly paired wine on the licensed terrace and take a vineyard tour. If you are not able to make the drive, Jost wines can be discovered at most local restaurants, liquor stores and your favorite neighbors back deck.

This was our second time to Jost. Once in 2017 for a tasting and look around, loved the place. This year we were back for the Stomp. We arrived on Friday to check on a few logistical issues. We met the owners, Carl and Donna. We explained we were from out of town for the Stomp. They showed us our VIP seats and explained how the day would go. They were very friendly, genuine, and generous. We stayed for a tasting and decided to stay for a glass of GBFR while enjoying the sun on the patio, one glass led to another and another. We just had such a great experience that day. The following day was the Stomp Festival and it was amazing. The talent was so good, the vibe was like no other festival we’ve been to. Well organized and great food and clean facilities. A world class event at a world class venue!

Anne Murray Centre

All that glitters is gold at the Anne Murray Centre. The Centre is a tribute to the legendary singer’s amazing career. Rows of gold and platinum albums, and glittering trophies of all shapes and sizes fill every inch of the room. It’s breathtaking even to those who’ve been in the room before, but for those who haven’t, it’s like walking into a fantasy – a spectacular visual you’ll remember long after you’ve left the Centre!

Before Celine...before Shania.....before kd......there was the Snowbird herself - Anne Murray! About 28 years ago, the Anne Murray Centre opened in Springhill, NS and is a wonderful way to revisit Anne's life and music. The museum (although Anne reputedly isn't keen on calling it that, still being very much alive) offers a chronological view of her life from her birth in Springhill through to her retirement, covering her professional, her personal and pubic achievements. It's all there - the music, the gold (and platinum) records and her other awards including her Order of Canada and Order of Nova Scotia. The gift shop on the premises offers not only memorabilia relating to Anne but also items created by craftsmen and women and artisans in Nova Scotia and particularly from the local region. In addition to this, the Centre also supports local musicians with their Music at Noon sessions on Fridays during the summer months. The staff are fun, friendly and enthusiastic - a great group of people. And for those who are able to be there - Anne Murray Day takes place on the last Saturday of July each year, with Anne herself appearing for a meet and greet with her fans.

Wolfville Farmers Market

Started in 1992 with three vendors in a parking lot, we are now a year-round market on Saturdays with over 70 farmers, chefs and artisan vendors. We transformed a turn of the century apple warehouse into our 9000 square foot Market home in 2010. Wolfville Farmers’ Market offers three unique shopping experiences for people looking for local awesomeness. As a farmers’ market and given the need for social distancing, we knew it would be essential for us to do more to increase opportunities to access all the amazing products from our farmers, chefs and artisans. Our answer to the challenge has been to plan for three unique shopping experiences, each allowing a distinct way for you to access local: Our Saturday Market, our online store WFM2Go and new to the season, a Farm and Art Market Store.

This little town market has it all. Fresh produce, seafood and meats. If you are hungry, there are several vendors that can tempt your appetite with a variety of offerings, from donuts, cakes and cookies to sandwiches, and even curry. There are lots of local crafters to browse including jams, jellies, wines, hot sauces and even local grown flowers to brighten your home. Glad we had the opportunity to wander through, while on our short stay.
