Mallard Pointe provides some of the nicest scenery available in North Mississippi. The golf course sets up well and offers some challenging holes. I really enjoyed the layout of the course except for #18 which someone mentioned in another review. That hole is virtualy impossible to figure out and score well on. The greeens on our trip were in nice shape. As with every course, especially public courses, there were some areas that needed repair, but that is to be expected. I will definitely play this course again.

We stayed in a cabin and overall the park is serene. However, it appears that the management maybe has been there too long?? There were several signs of apathy. Not sure if it is apathetic management, disgruntled employees. lack of funding or all of the above.. Lots of trash throughout the park in visitor areas. In fact, we found ourselves taking the time to pick it up and deposit it in the receptacles. The campground bathrooms had not been cleaned in several days; no paper towels, trash cans full and the men's room stunk of urine. An employee in the the visitor center was smoking in the building. The cabins needed a lot attention on the outside but we ok on the inside except for the paint job>lots of paint on trim and areas that were obviously not supposed to be painted. The stay was nice and the area was quiet. My money is on a manager that is about to retire. If that is the case, the place will start looking up with a new set of eyes and a fresh outlook. Overall, the park has a lot of potential and really seems like a nice quiet place. We would consider staying in a cabin there again in the future.

Great place for all things Ole Miss and college football! My favorite place for a weekend getaway! Food, exercise and retail therapy on the Square, antiquing, and sports! And you have to love the architecture history and gas lamps!!

Open to the public on Fridays, 1-9pm, with music from 6-9pm. $10 per person for the brewery tour which includes six 6oz samples of Yalobusha beer. No music cover. Under 21 y/o's are welcome but may not participate in beer sampling. Merchandise for sale on site and on our website. There is no restaurant on site, but the public is invited to get take-out from any of our great neighboring restaurants and eat at the brewery! Hope to see y'all soon!
A friend who recently moved to Water Valley from Los Angeles was touting the atmosphere and the brews as a great local social event. I arrived and there were mostly young families and extended families of all ages socializing> There were youngesters running around and the adults tasting samples of a variety of local brews which were quite good. This is more of a local gathering place than a "bar scene or party scene," which gives it an informal charm. Enjoyed the company and the brews. Because the state just allowed breweries to serve more than samples, they are planning a restaurant so that the patrons don't have to pick up a pizza out the door. They will hopefully they will keep the informal atmosphere which allows people to visit.

I've lived in Mississippi going on 10 years now and have never been up to Hernando.
I saw that Cedar Hill Farm has a pumpkin patch, corn maze, hay ride, and various other activities during the day during late September-October and I decided to take a visit, and I am so glad I did!!!
The farm itself is HUGE, with so much to see and do. There's a little country store where they sell their own jarred jellies, jams, salsas, tomato sauce, pickled vegetables of different kinds, syrups, etc. They also have cute little toys and trinkets for kids, and handmade candles and soaps!
Inside the country store is a snack bar that serves things like burgers, chicken tenders, nachos, hot dogs, etc. My family got the chicken tenders, cheeseburger, and nachos and all of them were really good! You sit in a small little country kitchen type area and enjoy your meal and watch TV.
There is also a part of the farm where you can feed the animals for $0.25 a cup. They had goats and their kids (so cute!!), chickens, roosters, miniature horses, sheep, cows, donkeys, mules, pigs, and bunnies! All of the animals were so beautiful and friendly, I could have honestly stayed over there the whole day and been satisfied. They also had a little black cat and a tabby cat running around the farm, both very sweet and outgoing cats that would roll over for a belly rub for anyone - even the kids!
When you take the hayride during the day, it takes you to a corn maze for you to walk through and then you can go down to the pumpkin patch and pick a pumpkin. However, if you aren't able to walk far, there is a huge selection of various gourds within the farm for you to choose from.
I didn't have any children with me, but there were so many activities for the kids to do, including a little zip line and riding the horses.
We also went to the haunted farm attraction later that night and had a blast. We did the "trail of terror" and it was pretty scary! I don't recommend you do that if you 1) don't have good night vision, 2) have weak ankles or trip easily (lots of stumps) or 3) can't run because it's very dark with lots of obstacles and we were chased twice by a guy with a chainsaw!
The haunted hayride was very fun too! The tractor takes you very far out on the farm and stops at probably 7-8 scary stops.
Overall, I absolutely loved this farm and would love to go back again sometime. My favorite part was by far the animals - they were so friendly and peaceful and the people working at Cedar Hill Farms were so nice and hospitable. We really enjoyed ourselves!!!

Grenada Lake has good bass and crappie fishing if you are interested in a fishing trip. If skiing is what you like there is a vast area for you. Sandy beaches for the sun bather.

The depot is gone, but the rail bed, a concrete slab, and a wall portrait depicting the legendary 1903 encounter between W.C. Handy and an unnamed blues musician make the Tutwiler Train Depot site a special shrine for Delta Blues pilgrims.
While in Tutwiler you should also stop at the Tutwiler Funeral Home on Hancock Avenue, from where in 1955 the body of Emmett Till was shipped to his mother in Chicago.

and encourage folks to visit and take use of this wonderful resource. That being said over the years we have stayed at eight of Mississippi's state parks and they have gotten progressively worse. I understand budget cuts but I get the feeling that folks at Kyle have pretty much given up trying. This is our third experience at this particular state park and the same threadbare curtains that we said should have been changed when we first stayed there over ten years ago are still hanging; the same worn, spotted, & dingy carpet that we thought should have been changed ten years ago is still there; the same cracked tiles......&c. There are holes in the baseboard (at least in our cabin) where you could see outside and half of the weather-stripping around the doors was missing.
Kitchen utensils included......a spatula. There were dining utensils and mismatched plates, cups, & tumblers as well as assorted pots & pans but other than that we had a spatula (as I have mentioned I take my own but there should be basic utensils). There was one dish towel and nothing to scrub pots or pans and a half-empty container of watered-down dish soap. The oven worked when it wanted and kept setting off the smoke alarm.
There was no soap in the shower and no hand towels. Four wash cloths & four bath towels of dubious quality were included. Sheets & pillow cases were so thin you could see through them.
They have added televisions and cable but for some reason the TV is in the bedroom and cannot be seen fr/ the living area so if you want to watch you either sit in bed or drag a kitchen chair into the BR. Great showers and a nice area outside w/ picnic table, fire ring, & grill but it was too hot for us to take advantage of this amenity.
I realize there is a conundrum of not attracting people b/c of lack of amenities and not having amenities b/c of not attracting people and the short-sightedness of the state in not providing funds to encourage desperately needed tourist money but something seriously needs to be done here and I am definitely dubious about returning for what would be a fourth visit to this particular state park.

My husband and I toured Rowan Oak last week and were impressed. The house is well-preserved and interesting to see. There is a small museum on the ground floor and a brief statement outside of each room. The brochure is informative. There are some outbuildings which were closed when we were there.
