Barnard Castle is a market town in Teesdale, County Durham, England. It is named after the castle around which it grew up. It is the main settlement in the Teesdale area, and is a popular tourist destination. The Bowes Museum has the best collection of European fine and decorative arts in the North of England, housed in a "magnificent" 19th-century French-style chateau. Its most famous exhibit is the 18th-century Silver Swan automaton, though art includes work by Goya and El Greco.

Advance Booking Required : We are a working Alpaca Farm and run Alpaca Treks and Farm Visits throughout the year (subject to the Great British Weather!) We can tailor a trek or visit to suit most requirements and can arrange special Treks and Visits - Just ask and we'll see what we can do! Book as far in advance as you can as we do get very busy at weekends and during holiday periods and are often booked several months in advance! Try to have some alternate dates in mind. Please remember that both weather and animals can be unpredictable and as such we may need to cancel and rearrange at short notice. Alpaca Walks are currently £20 per person (supplement for extra people and children) and we require a minimum of two people as the alpacas prefer to go in a group. We cannot allow waiting on farm for insurance reasons but Cross Lanes Organics Farm Shop is 2 min away. Farm visits are also available at a cost of £10 per person (min 2 people) : Check out our website for more information.
Doug and Sam were friendly, welcoming and informative. We had a fantastic walk after each meeting our alpaca along with another couple. They have a beautiful serene location but very accessible. Doug and Sam answered all of our questions and were able to incorporate the social distancing measures and rules without taking away from the experience. A really enjoyable activity which I would definitely recommend!

Great place for coffee and scones/cake, or light lunches. Good choice of basic food, well presented, friendly staff.

A green venture working towards an eco friendly way of living with organic, local and green thinking at the heart of everything we do. Bread and pizzas are made daily in our wood fired oven, and we serve simple rustic dishes made with local, organic and seasonal ingredients, all cooked fresh to order using traditional cooking methods. Supporting local producers the farmshop has a traditional butchers counter, delicatessen, bakery and general store with organic fruit, veg, wines, beers and baby products. All of our bread, cakes, patisserie and even chocolates are organic and are hand made in our own kitchens.
I have been visiting Cross Lanes for years. I live locally and have called in from time to time for coffee or brunch or to pick up a few things from the shop, I've been to their special events and Bonfire Night festivities and I have to say - it just gets better and better. The food is delicious, the staff are lovely and they have been incredible during lockdown, offering ready to collect shopping orders and ready made Sunday roasts. We stopped by for takeaway pizza last week and we all agreed it was the best pizza we'd had in years (especially the rosemary and goat's cheese mmmmmmmm). Great people, great food and just well worth it.

Wonderful and peaceful medieval church. Purchased a DVD about the history of the church and a couple of postcards which acted as lovely mementos. The medieval carved tomb stone inside of the church was also great to see!
