Armed with a shopping list & money, you will have the opportunity to interact & chat with the vendors who grow & sell their produce. In the fish market, see how our flying fish is filleted & you can try your hand at learning this skill. At my home, you’ll learn about the history of rum & take part in a rum punch competition.DJ Snake Oil (my husband Keith) keeps your hips swinging from the moment you arrive with pulsating Caribbean rhythms. Also learn about how breadfruit came to the Caribbean & the origins of our traditional dish “Souse”. You’ll take home unforgettable memories & also an e-copy of my book, “Treasures Of My Caribbean Kitchen”.

You simply must visit St Nicholas Abbey when you visit Barbados. Built in the Jacobean style during the 1600s, with most of the furniture still intact, the guided tour is expertly and professionally conducted as you step back in theme on a sugar cane and rum distillery plantation. You will not regret the short taxi drive and you will rave forever about the view from Chrysler Tree Hill. Allan and Bonnie Asselin Ontario, Canada

Arrived early in the day, about 9am and did the self tour. Very cool, lots going on and a very easy walkabout. Headed over to the tasting room and sampled 6 recommended rums, WOW. The young lady handling the tasting did a fantastic job of explaining all the rums and how they were all a little different. We purchased two take home to sip on for the month's to come. ????????

We were based in Dover Beach during our stay but drove up to Holetown to sample the beaches on the west coast. We stopped off here for a cocktail and to watch the sun go down and it was fabulous - a perfect setting in both senses! There is no beach in front of the bar but there is a boardwalk and although we didn't eat there, the restaurant next door, which I think is part of the same place, looked lovely too. Cocktails are not cheap but with the British Pound so low, we found everything to be quite expensive. Definitely worth a visit!

A brilliant local experience, this buzzing market encapsulates everything that's good about Barbados. It starts early in the morning before it gets too hot, with vendors selling authentic, handmade goods from all over the island. The food is delicious and the coffee is the best I've tried in Barbados. I always try and start my trip with a visit to the market, to pick up all the local fresh vegetables I need for the week. Couldn't recommend enough!
