Mansions and majestic hotels serve as reminders of Bar Harbor’s past (in the 19th century, it was a favorite vacation spot of society’s upper crust). Today, visitors kayak, explore Acadia National Park, go bird- or whale-watching, and enjoy salty sea air and sandy beaches.

We were a party of 4 coming into Bar Harbor on 9/25/19 from the Norweign Escape. Ellen was our tour guide and was so accomodating even picking us up a little earlier. She was very knowledgeable, excellent driver and we all had a lot of fun with her. She stopped at all the good places in Acadia and even other places that we didn't know we were going too. Overall I can't say enough about Coastal Tours. Woody was very quick to respond to my e-mails and even though we couldn't get him for our tour guide we loved having Ellen. Had a great lunch in Bar Harbor at her suggestion. Great Lobster Rolls. Thank you Ellen. Carolyn, Dennis, Addie & Florence

We are Bar Harbor's largest and oldest private van touring company. Locally owned, we specialize in a personalized experience of Acadia National Park. Our experienced local guides have a deep knowledge of the area and narrate the tours with history and facts in an unscripted way which allows for many questions and custom experiences. We have tours that range from 3 to 6 hours for groups up to 5. The tours are private to the group booking. We don't put groups together. We are advanced reservation only. The price is per hour per vehicle, we don't have a per person rate. All the time is all yours while on tour, you can spend as long as you want at each stop. Perfect for photographers or those who don't want 10 minute per stop experience. See Acadia in a chauffeured way and see all the highlights: Summit of Cadillac Mountain, Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, glacial lakes, soaring granite cliffs, as well as gardens, mansions, lighthouses, & stone bridges.

Methods of ground transportation between Bangor and Bar Harbor are limited, but Bar Harbor Shuttle LLC offers an affordable, consistent alternative. We are located in Bar Harbor and make several daily trips. We are also available on the the off season months. We generally make trips to Bangor and Bar Harbor once in the morning, once in the afternoon, and evening.
I used the Bar Harbor Shuttle to go from the Bangor Airport to my motel in Bar Harbor the week of the Fourth of July and I would highly recommend it to everyone. It was so nice not to worry about driving a rental car with the peak season traffic in Bar Harbor or paying a lot to rent a car only to have it sit at the motel for the week. Helen was very easy to work with when setting up the reservation. James, the driver, was friendly and a very safe driver. When I come back to Maine, I will definitely use the service again.

The Island Explorer bus provides free transportation to a good deal of Mount Desert Island on different routes. Two of the places it goes are through Acadia National Park and to and from Bar Harbor Village Green from Bar Harbor hotels. My wife and I took the Eden Street branch of the Island Explorer on a Thursday evening in September to the Bar Harbor Village Green so that we wouldn't have to deal with parking and meters while we ate our dinner. The buses run roughly every 15 minutes but we waited closer to 30 minutes before one arrived at our hotel at approximately 5:20 PM. Our hotel was one of the first on the route and we were easily able to find seats. The bus stopped at or near many other hotels and was very crowded with many people standing by the time we reached the town green at about 5:45 PM. The seats were comfortable and the ride was smooth. In the Fall, the last bus leaving the town green back along the Eden Street branch leaves at 8:15 PM. If you intend on taking the bus back to your hotel make sure to get there early, as when we were there more people tried to get on the bus than it could accomodate.

Ordered our ride to the top of Cadillac Mountain the day before our hike, and our driver was there five minutes early and was almost $20 less than the competition. Very knowledgeable on the history of the area, and we had a great experience with Point-to-Point taxi service!

Hi, I'm Rogier and I love sharing my knowledge of Mt. Desert Island and Acadia National Park with visitors. As an Acadia resident of 15 years, I can show you the top attractions or the best secluded island locations — or both. Travel in style in a private car! When I'm not guiding, I make my living as MDI's most celebrated photographer and photography teacher. My work has been featured in the New York Times, Downeast magazine, Professional Photographer magazine, and on Petapixel.
