The city of Bangor is perhaps most well known as the setting for many of Stephen King's stories, a reputation that has led to the nickname Transylmainia. There is more to Bangor than just tales of horror, however. There is a thriving arts scene, with museums, galleries, theaters, a symphony orchestra and a popular sidewalk art festival every summer. The area around Bangor includes the coastal Acadia National Park and the wooded Baxter State Park, providing plenty of outdoor adventure.

It was interesting to see all the old head stones and there was this really cool castle looking structure. There's also a nice pond in the middle and a Korea Memorial.

For a small theater, PTC delivers the best each time; amazing performers, sets, lighting, sound, etc. Bangor is lucky to have such a talented group in our small city. Great place to spend the afternoon. Beautiful trails, picnic area, and water fountain. Would recommend for spending a couple hours to enjoy the outdoors or to take some photos. It’s near a busy road, but it doesn’t feel like it when you’re walking around.

While in Bangor, we decided to take a stroll along the beautiful Penobscot River Walkway before heading for home. I've read about it in DownEast magazine. It's so peaceful ... we were there on an autumn day; and in spite of it being chilly, there were many dog-walkers and "seniors" taking advantage of the day. A nice photo-op walk.

This mighty 31-foot statue of the "great tree-biter" towers over the landscape in Bangor's Bass Park.
Everyone comes to visit Paul when they're in the area. If you want the best view, hit the parking garage across the street, top level, and you're eye level with him!!
