At 9 am the fishing boats go out to sea for the day at 4pm they return and the Bakau Fishing Market is open for business. Go to Bakau Guest House Iiagrasroculteexperietrulyamazing!!!!
This is well written and well photoed and well described. We were actually there to buy some fish, so someone with me to know what to look for and haggle a price. Reasonable at the best of times by Europe fish market prices. Boats, highly decorated go out about 9.00 so be a bit early to see them being prepared, you can wander about anytime, always a hive of activity and all very colourful. Boats back about 4-5pm and catches hauled in. Then the real action starts, ladies everywhere with big gutting knives, all gets a bit messy and smelly, lot of negotiation going on. Some fresh taken away immediately, some for the smoke house. Make a donation when you sign the book, otherwise as you find life in Real Gambia.
