Nestled at the foot of the Black Forest in South Germany, Baden-Baden is a chic destination for those who fancy a dip in its famous salt- and radon-rich thermal hot springs. The town has been a popular destination for so long that it's starting to show its age, but not to worry. It's still very classy, picturesque and well-maintained. (The Dame Julie Andrews of German spa towns, if you will.) Sporty types will find an abundance of opportunities to enjoy golf, tennis, horseback riding and skiing nearby in winter.

Definitely recommend this experience for anyone visiting Baden Baden. This town has witnessed a lot of history, from Roman expansion through to Imperial Luxury, Nazi occupation and the unfolding of medical practice. Sidenote -. if anyone is a fan of Foucault, you will find it very interesting to witness Baden-Baden's perspective on and insight into the evolving understanding of medicine.

The Faberge museum in Baden Baden is a fantastic place to witness and understand the oeuvre of one of the World’s foremost jewellers. Here you will see Imperial Eggs, breathtaking bejewelled plants and much more. There are also silver gilt dinner services from Sheffield and Aztec Gold. We were lucky to have a wonderful museum guide (no charge for this aspect) there to explain what we were looking at and he made the visit come alive and hugely interesting. I think the entrance price is about 15 euros or so.
