Hancock Gorge

Reviewed By EdiBa683 - Switzerland, null

This hike was tough. During the challenging hike we visited Hancock Gorge, Spider Walk and Kermit Pool. Sometimes the trail goes steeply downhill, there are natural steps and some loose rocks. We also had to climb down or horizontal through the narrow gorge. Everything was included. The hike was quite adventures and part of it difficult. It is not a problem if you are fit and sure-footed. Good shoes and enough water are necessary and don't forget your swimming gear. The hike was amazing.

Wow, wow, wow, the Geikie Gorge is just spectacular. What can I say you just have to go and see it! The scenery is sensational, seeing crocodiles in their own habitat is so good, the colours, the rock formations, the wildlife, it is all amazing. A must do!!!!

Leven Canyon

Reviewed By MGGarden - Canterbury, United Kingdom

A great place to visit with a good walk along well made paths, one relatively easy ending with a fantastic view from Cruickshanks Lookout, either a walk back the same way or 690 steep steps with rope hand rail down into the valley with the last part being as the first half but more steep, back to the car park, good exercise. A nice place to have a picnic where an Akidna might appear, plus some good birds.

Emma Gorge

Reviewed By loveindo - Broome, Australia

Access in to Emma Gorge is along a short track where this year 2 shallow stretches of water had to be crossed to reach the Resort parking area. Emma Gorge Resort is part of El Questro Wilderness Park & boasts lovely gardens , glamping tents & luxury accommodation as well as Emmas Restaurant & a pool. Casual dining, coffee & snacks available as well as souvenirs. Plenty of parking & nice clean public toilets. There is a reasonably easy start to the challenging Gorge walk where the creek is crossed in several places & some climbing is involved but as long as you tackle it with decent walking shoes & plenty of drinking water people of any age & reasonable fitness should manage. Turquoise pool is easy enough to reach & swimming is possible here. The rest of the walk to the waterfall is only a little bit further on. The towering cliffs surround this chilly waterhole that rarely sees much sunshine. After a fairly dry wet season the waterfall was still running, only a narrow stream, but running none the less. Lots of people were braving a swim in the cool pool but it is actually a nice spot to just sit for a while before heading back down to the resort. The return walk seemed a little less daunting somehow. But icy cool water provided on the verandah of the resort & lush green grass to loll on for a while saw us recovering quickly enough.

We started the day on 1 May 2021 at 4.45 am with our knowledgeable and enthusiastic AAT Kings tour guides, Dylan and Moses, whom collected us from our hotel in Yulara. We traveled to a cattle station for a hearty, friendly breakfast around 7.30 am and then set off to Kings Canyon to undertake either of the shorter, beautiful creek bed walk, classed as Grade 1 - easy walking (1.5 hours return), or the scenic rim walk, Grade 4, 3-4 hours walk. We did the shorter walk, which was beautiful, not rushed and plenty of interesting and informative commentary along the way. Our fellow bus travelers whom did the longer, scenic rim walk, were in awe of the stunning scenery, and confirmed that this was a very enjoyable experience also, for those more experienced walkers. We also had the opportunity before lunch to undertake a helicopter ride with Professional Helicopter Services (extra optional cost), 8, 15 or 35 minutes duration, taking us over Kings Canyon and providing us with unsurpassed views of Kings Canyon. We had a nice lunch at The Thirsty Dingo at Kings Canyon Resort, and then traveled to a lovely spot where on either side of the road, great sights awaited us at Mt Conner. A little further down the road we reached Curtin Springs Station, which was a lovely stop off to a family owned property and then back to our hotel by 5.30 pm. The whole journey provided us with wonderful local stories, that provided us with a greater understanding of the whole area. We had many laughs on the bus, with Moses and Dylan being wonderful ambassadors for the region. Very new, comfortable and modern bus. We would highly recommend. Had a lovely morning walk on the Canyon Walk, very pretty walking next to the clear Ovens river - plenty of locals out and very friendly, perhaps because they hadn’t seen visitors for a long time!
