Katy Trail

My husband and I cycled the entire trail starting in Clinton, doing about 50 miles a day and staying in B&B’s each night. The trail of crushed limestone is mostly flat and was well marked and kept. We got a shuttle in St. Charles to Amtrak in St. Louis and rode back on the train with our bikes to Sedalia. We spent the night there and rode back to Clinton. There are lots of places to stop on the trail but some smaller towns had limited or no restaurants open so plan carefully and take plenty of water. The trail is very scenic, especially along the river. We loved the experience!

Montelle Winery

This is the best winery in the Augusta area. We have visited almost every year since 2003. Great wine, excellent service and beautiful view from their deck. We brought a friend and his wife, who enjoyed their visit. We purchased several cases of their great wine, which gave us some time to enjoy the sights while they prepared our order. The manager and all employees we dealt with were helpful and courteous. Highly recommend a stop at this winery as they have great wine to taste and purchase, plus enjoy the view.

This county park has the Katy Trail state park run through it. It has great cabins to stay in (no air conditioning or heat but electricity). The wide variety of manageable hikes is best part. The sugar white sand from the quarry is the next. If you like birding, I’ve had great adventures here. There are ponds and lakes and the Missouri River. Towering bluffs and forested hills. Great for a day or a few days.
