Since 2015, the Cérès Franco Collection has been housed in an exceptional setting: the former wine cooperative cellar of Montolieu. Resolutely international, the Cérès Franco Collection brings together around 2,000 works from the 20th and 21th centuries, some of which are presented each year on a different theme. Brazilian and European naivety, South American popular art, art brut, self-taught, singular, artists from the CoBra movement or the New Figuration, the provenance of the works reflects an eclectic and independent taste for an art situated on the fringes of the major artistic currents. This collection reflects, with a rare coherence, the gaze of an audacious and demanding collector who has turned to intense works. Each year, therefore, a temporary exhibition, to be held from April to November, is organised with a guest curator who looks at this collection while engaging in a dialogue with other institutions or collections.

A fascinating church in Narbonne with long history as noted here by other posters. We went specifically to see the crypt, which has dug into the adjoining burial ground to expose centuries of sarcophagi and layers of bone in the dirt. A real descent into the underworld accessed through this church, which has evidence of destruction from the French Revolution as well as the famous frog in the holy water basin.

This cathedral joins the one in Siena (Italy) as an example of grandiose but truncated plans. Begun in the 13th century in the prevailing gothic style it has impressive thick columns, beautiful gothic arches and colorful stained glass windows. Built on the site of previous churches, one can find remnants. In the 14th century funds run out, mostly because of a decline of business in Narbonne, so the nave is missing.

There is something about the cathedrales in France. The Cathedrale St Just in Narbonne is very impressive. You cannot help to feel humble and quiet if you wander through this magnificent building. It is right in the centre of Narbonne and it has a lovely garden.

This is an imposing church which exudes a sense of deep history. The stained-glass windows at the altar end of the church – the apse – are beautiful, particularly the two rose windows – one at each end of the transept. I sat there for several minutes gazing at their beauty … and returned two days later to have another look. The windows rivalled anything that I’ve seen on visits to various churches around the world.

Really enjoyed this visit.OK you might say it’s just a school and you would be correct at that but it’s a walk back in time to see what a French school looked and felt like way back. A really interesting little museum very quaint and quite a bit of history to it in relation to world war 2. Well worth a visit
