The Māori call Auckland Tāmaki Makaurau — a maiden desired by 100 lovers,
and a valuable territory fought over for centuries for its fertile land and
natural harbors on the Pacific Ocean (to the east) and Tasman Sea (to the
west). Today, it’s New Zealand’s largest city: A vibrant and diverse place
where nature and urban life go hand-in- hand, with 48 volcanic cones, more
than 50 islands, and 29,000 km of coastline and beaches just minutes away
from the arts and shopping of the central city.

Basically, do this walk! The car park is extremely close to the beginning of the walk, which was very convenient. The walk itself is maybe 45-50 minutes one way trip, but you will want to stay at the base of the falls, as it is beautiful. The stairs are a little slippery, but it had just rained when we had gone. If you want to do a relatively simple walk to a beautiful waterfall, do this!

Kitekite falls is less than 30 minutes walk from the end of Glen Esk Road. Plenty of parking. It's a great Waitakere's bush walk through lots of native bush on a variety of board walk, gravel tracks and stairs. Easily completed by our 6 year old - and the 2 year old walked most of it too. You can do part of a loop coming back so you don't come down the way you went up. The kids enjoyed walking across a river (over stepping stones) on the way back. There is currently shoe cleaning in place to prevent the Kauri die back. Lovely spot to stop for a picnic - or if you're keen a swim below the falls.

Easy to go to the waterfalls If you look for a track there's more 10-15min drive from the falls The ranger on site helped us to find where it was and we also used google map We started from the Suspension Bridge and ended up at Wairoa Loop, it took us an hour, it's better to start from the bridge unless you want to climb a lot of stairs from Wairoa ;)

It had not been raining in Auckland for weeks so we thought there might not be a waterfall. Fortunately we were wrong. There was still a great waterfall. We initially parked in the first large car park and tried to walk out to the beach. (I’d recommend including that in your visit). If you do walk out to the beach, make sure you are on the southern side of the little stream that runs out to the ocean. Otherwise you’ll need to take your shoes off to cross the stream. After a walk to the beach we walked back through the car park and crossed the bridge and up the hill to the waterfall. It’s not far up the road on the left hand side. The walk is max 5 min. Definitely take a swim when you get there. It might be a bit chilly but worth it. The water is deep enough and clear.
