BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL. Enter an upside down world and meet the real stars of the night! Our personalised tours only run during feeding time 3-6pm, when the bats come down to eye level from their 6 metre-high roost. Eclectic collection of bat art , world-class facilities and bat information set among restful gardens. Open all year but bookings essential as tour times vary between 3 and 6pm. Entry $20 adult and $10 children.
We stumbled across this place as it’s not highly advertised, but what a gem of a place it is! The tour was outstanding with all things “bats” carefully explained to us with such passion. So wonderful to see the bats rehabilitating. And it’s so clean!! We were amazed. Keep up the good work

Nice walk, best done early morning. Recommended to take insect repellent as march flies are notorious and do sting. I had terrible reactions and was covered in inflamed, itchy bites for weeks. Other than that I really enjoyed the walk.

I visited Atherton from 19 December so was not able to enter the Hou Wang Miao ( Temple) positioned with favourable feng-shui facing Piebald Creek to the north & the Herberton Range to the south. However I explored the site from the surrounding landscape & the National Trust booklet provided free by the Atherton Visitor Information Centre. Australian history of gold mining and how Chinese from Guangdong province were successful maize growers using traditional techniques. Social history of Chinese people in Australia.

If you love birdwatching, especially wetland water birds, you will love Hastie’s Swamp National Park. Even if you notice the signs, and take an unplanned detour like I did, you will love it, or find it interesting. There is a huge variety of birds that come here and you will see a few of these at any given time. There is an elevated bird watching tower which you enter after climbing some stairs, and from here you get a great view of the wetland swamp where the water birds congregate as well as interpretive signage describing the birds of the area in detail. Hastie’s Swamp is just a few kms outside of Atherton, and well worth a visit.

We have a background in tourism and usually find the best place to find local information is at the Visitor Information Centre. In this case, we found a gem. Nicole was the staff member on duty and we found her to be not only a wealth of great information, but so passionate about all that the area had to offer. She is a real asset to tourism in the area, so thank you Nicole for your time, knowledge, passion and that you took as much time with us as was needed to ensure we got the most out of our visit to the area. All your tips were well appreciated.

They say the visit will be surprising. I love the fact that most of the stock is local and the range of foodstuffs for vegans, GF and others was just amazing. I bought a heap of things as Xmas presents.
