What a lovely little museum! They have done an awesome job of displaying their military memorabilia. I especially liked the WWII era kitchen. I prefer this type of museum rather than the new ones that tell you the story and have just a few items with interactive kid displays. This has lots of stuff packed in a small space, well displayed! More uniforms than I have seen in any one museum!

Overlooked Gem! There may be some larger Movie theaters in the area, but the Athens Cinemagic Theater is by far the best! Large, comfortable rooms and screens instead of those small screens you get elsewhere and the very best buttered popcorn of any theater I've visited anywhere else in the area. Oh, and by the way, where in the heck can you go anywhere else for a drive-in movie? I don't know of anywhere else. I don't understand why this hidden gem isn't packed out every night!

The Athens-Limestone Visitors Center is situated on the corner of Big Spring Memorial Park in a historic building that first served Athens as its Utility Building. The building has been fully restored with architectural features of the early 1900's when the building was first erected to pump water from the natural spring in the park to downtown Athens. Among the collection of information we offer to visitors to our community, you will find trail brochures, event listings and maps not only for Limestone County but also a number of attractions and cities in North Alabama. Our Guest Service Volunteers will answer your questions about the community or will take the steps to get you the information before you leave our visitor's center. We feature rotating displays of local art work, local goods, and souvenirs in our facility as well. Our postcards are very popular with travelers looking to send a piece of Athens-Limestone AL home to family and friends. Athens Visitors Center is easily accessed from Beaty Street by step or ramp.
Our first stop during our Athens visit was to the Visitors Center...it is located in a historic structure, a plus in of itself, with a cute little garden immediately adjacent...and very clean mens and women's bathrooms right outside...the person tending the desk was extremely pleasant and helpful, helping us locate the historic sites we hoped to visit, plus a great lunch site recommendation, and even looked up a store at which we could look at vacuums. They have a plethora of brochures to help plan touring not only in Athens, but in all the sites otherwise encompassing the Antebellum Trail, and even Atlanta!
A great place to get oriented.
Recommended highly.

Visit the Market every Saturday during the summer to buy fresh produce from local growers. Enjoy live music, art, and children’s activities. Check out the website for dates and special Market events.
Don't know who schedules the open and close of this market but it seems to be the last to open in the spring and the first to close in the summer. It is still September, still plenty to harvest (especially apples), yet they have been closed for a couple of weeks. The markets in Decatur and the fast growing Madison markets are still thriving. When it is open, there are limited but some very good vendors. I'm sure with better management this market would attract more buyers and sellers.
