I am so pleased that I visited this zoo....yes to my surprise it was very small, no elephants or giraffes but seeing other animals much closer than those at larger zoos was the prize for me. My favorites seeing the Malayan Tiger relax in his pool and actually come closer to the fence when Flavia the zookeeper shared details about the tiger and the other animals. There were some of the tenants I have never seen before such as the King Vultures and Titi Monkeys. This zoo is a small gem but very valuable and important, it is accredited by the zoo association, so standards are being met and animals looked well cared for. I'll be visiting again!!!!

This memorial was built with private monies raised by a local organization. No government monies were used. The community of Atascadero has great pride in this memorial. Very beautiful at night with the lights lit on the brick walk way and the military flags. This memorial will give you chills of pride.

Escaping June Gloom in Morro bay we found the park in Ascadero.....at 98f the shade was welcomed. we visited the zoo adjacent to the park but most of the animals were staying out of the sun. Our visit coincided with the community BBQ and the large gathering all seemed to enjoy the event and the beautiful surroundings....we then had a slow walk around the lake whilst listening to the band. It all made for a most pleasant day

This was our second visit to Bristol, and we will undoubtedly visit again. On a wine tasting vacation in Paso Robles, you sometimes need a break from the grape, and Bristol is the perfect palate cleanser. The cider is delicious, and the open, industrial atmosphere is casual and relaxing. Locals even bring their dogs.
Order a flight, then purchase a growler of your favoite flavor. That's what we did. Check out Bristol if you're in the area. I can't guarantee you'll love the beet-flavored cider, but you have to at least try it.

The city hall seems well built with good architecture. The fountain outside the city hall in the park looks nice with paved paths all around. the water looked all soapy, so didn't let kids touch it. Maybe a nice hangout for locals.

A waitress at our hotel recommended these trails when we were looking for a 1 hour walk in town. If you follow the trails, you can reach the summit of the hill and see for miles around. The backside leads to a cemetery and the front side is accessed by parking across HWY 41 and walking under the highway. There are many trails and you can walk for as long as you want surrounded by nature but inside the city. There is a kiosk at the base of the hill with trail maps to familiarize you with what's available. We walked for 1-1/4 hours and worked up a sweat! Just up HWY 41 from the Starbucks in the strip mall.

If you are looking for something different a bit away from the tourists and crowds but like good honest hand crafted wine, this is for you. Stu Goodman (wine maker goldsmith) along with his wife Maria produce a small number of wines from local fruit. Here you talk to the wine maker and are able to get excellent wines that are under the radar of the well known big wineries.
The wine tasting bar is in Siegel's Jewelry Store so you can have your jewelry cleaned, watch fixed look at some special selections of jewelry in a family owned store with well over 50 years experience.
If you want some honest talk with the wine maker and to taste some wonderful handcrafted wines in a different venue this is a must. The wine tasting fee is $5.00. The interesting thing is it is right in the middle of town surrounded by well over 200 wineries. That is why we missed it in the past but not anymore!
