All worked very well indeed for Giza to Aswan overnight. Online booking for an overnight compartment for two people gave the wagon number, cabin number and two seat numbers and these were exactly what we had. Giza station, unlike Cairo, only has two platforms so you're not likely to get the wrong train and on the lampost is indicated where wagon 2 etc will stop. Helpful staff speak enough English if you need help. The train left and arrived on time. As you should know before booking, space in the compartment is limited with two large bags but enough for comfortable seating. A lower and upper berth were lowered into place one hour after the 19.45 departure and after the box snack of chicken, rice and a dessert was delivered. Not great but edible. Tea, coffee and soft drinks available. With the swaying of the train and track noise and frequent stops in the first few hours sleeping wasn't easy but a good few hours were managed to arrive reasonably refreshed. Breakfast delivered was tea or coffee with croissant, jam, pastry, bread roll. The windows need a good cleaning so don't expect a picturesque river Nile view passing by. But all in all a good fun alternative to flying Cairo to Aswan.
