Hidden away in the subtle hills of eastern sub-Himalayas is Meghalaya! A mystical land blessed with bountiful rainfall, sunshine, virgin forests, high plateaus, breathtaking waterfalls, clear rivers and meandering streams. This 8 days tour has been prepared as a loving ode to Meghalaya. A fun and refreshing itinerary which brings travelers close to the landscape. There are wondrous visits to secretive caves, water bodies and waterfalls. And a sense of feeling alive! Along with exploring the land, there is also a balanced interaction with the tribes such as in village walks and observing the livelihoods of the people. The fascinating close relationship that can be observed when humans live alongside and in tune to the natural environment can be observed in the lifestyles of the people. From creating sacred forests to building bridges out of living roots, beliefs in forest spirits and stone monoliths, and an approach to an attitude to be as compassionate and benevolent as nature.

Mr. Vaivhav was very helpful from the beginning with our individual planning for the two of us. We have been to India only 30 years ago, and did not expect to find the most northern part of Arunachal Pradesh still mostly untouched from today´s western style of living. There is Internet and lot of heavy traffic on the road, but all those beautiful and quiet buddhist temples let you feel as if you would visit lost past times. Especially when it is snowing in Tawang, and the Tibetan buddhist monk is turning round and round barefeet with naked chest during the morning mist is fading... We also loved to stay with the people of the area in their homestays, where we were served good local food prepared by the housewifes and their daughters. After dinner there was always time for chatting and loughing together with our driver, Mr. Kanak Roy, our guide from Ziro, Mr. Tasang Tage and the whole families in the center of their houses around the fireplaces. Later on our journey the rhinos impressed us a lot during our visit to Kaziranga. Bycicling through Majuli island on the other hand was great to stay in touch with the people there. During our stay in the area between Ziro and Pasighat the tangerines and kiwis were ripe and day by day brought to the markets. In baskets balanced on women´s heads over swinging suspension bridges, a western tourist is afraid to pass... Everywhere waterfalls, laughing children, beautiful women and friendly men met us on our trip! We passed a lot of festivities on our journey and visits to local schools, where we were invited to look around and speak with everybody, who was interested to do so. In the Naga hills we found some very old men, last of their kind, with a lot of tatoos on their faces, adorned with colourful necklaces, feathers and boar´s teeth on their black hats. It will not have been our last trip to this beautiful part of India! But be aware, if you love comfort. Sometimes there is no electricity. You may find cold water only to wash yourself. And heating was poor during our stay in the most northern regions - three weeks in January and February 2020 - maybe not the very best time to travel, call it a bit tricky. It was exhausting, but also worth all the driving...
