Although it is tough to reach the waterfall the view you see afterwards and the swimming opportunity are worth trying. If you are confident enough try to walk all the way besides it and get cool in the water. It is an amazing experience.

When you decide to go macahel road takes you near to nature beauties and national park covers " Karagol" in few kms from the main road. Name is coming from the lake water seen black. No river feeds the lake and no legs to make emty but people says water level stays constant for all seasons. There is no way turn around the lake, some temporary wooden barracs and huts for usage. Daily based visitors makes picnics or can use restaurant for snacks. We saw the rowing group at lake. W/O going to this distinc region, you cannot say you made the black sea region tour

It's hard to reach the lake area, but once you are there, you can stay in the hotel/motel right next to the lake. I stayed in the best room of the place which sees the lake. The staff is very helpful. You can also make camping around the lake. It's more peaceful than the Karagol in Borcka which became a hotspot for tourist attraction and picnic lovers.

Although the church is all that remains of the monastery, it is decorated with beautiful reliefs, in very good condition. Internally the church is badly damaged, although the dome fresco is in surprisingly good condition. This is a cross against a blue background surrounded by 4 seraphim. Beneath the dome, the drum has 16 alternating windows and blank arcades showing 8 apostles and 8 local saints.

I was informed that the biggest Ataturk monument is sculptured and erected in Artvin.
This monument is not in the downtown but erected just another hill face to city.
The road to monument is not good. Driver should pay much more attention. The wheather is perfect, not windy but very clean and full of oxygen. You can the the full picture of Artvin city just from Atatepe.

The road is so long and some parts are broken. Also, some signboards are missing and it could be confusing. We lost 3 times. The road takes 1,5 hours from Macahel Green Roof Hotel on foot. If you want to go there be sure you got an appropriate vehicle. There is no winter maintenance so it is only available in summer. At the end view was amazing. There was only one thing in my mind "totally worth it"
