Visiting Vagharshapat and its complex of churches, museums and ruins is absolutely a must at any trip to Armenia. You can start with the "Zvartnots Temple" - the ruins of the old church consecrated to "Saint Gregory the Illuminator" and now known as the "Cathedral of the Celestial Angels". Then visit two different churches devoted to two of the first martyrs of Christianity, "Saint Hripsime" and "Saint Gayane", both nuns and deeply venerated in Armenia. Then, visit the "Mother See of Holy Echmiadzin" complex, the seat of the "Catholicos of All Armenians" (the Pope of the Armenian Apostolic Church), with the "Cathedral of Echmiadzin", which is actually closed for renovations and will remain so until probably 2022. But you can visit its exteriors, gardens, other buildings and, principally, the "Alex and Marie Manoogian Treasury House Museum", which simply is the Treasury of the Armenian Apostolic Church, with its awesome collection of important religious objects. This collection includes the precious "Holy Spear" which, according to legends, is the spear that wounded Jesus Christ at the Crucifixion and was brought to Armenia by Saint Jude Thaddeus. Isn't that enough? If it isn't, just remember that the "Mother Sea of Holy Echmiadzin" complex, including the ruins of the "Temple of Zvartnots", are all Unesco's appointed "World Heritage Sites"! Enjoy!

Temple of Garni The Temple of Garni is a classical Hellenistic temple in Garni, Armenia. It is perhaps the best-known structure and symbol of pre-Christian Armenia. The temple was dedicated to Mythra, a deity popular in the Near East which became the patron goddess of the Roman Empire in the period before Christianity.Monastery of Geghard is a medieval monastery in the Kotayk province
Garni Temple is a Greco-Roman colonnaded Pagan Temple dating back to second or first century AD and next to the Temple there are excavated Roman baths... After visiting the temple make sure to enter one of the several homes where the villages will demonstrate making "Lavash" an ancient Armenian bread and enjoy some home made cheeses and fresh fruits... Time permitting take a local taxi and go down the gorge to enjoy the "Symphony of Rocks" formation . Most regular tours do not include this unique part of Garni but if you are with a private tour then you must enjoy the beautiful rock formations... once you are there you can also enjoy a fresh fish lunch in a beautiful garden setting restaurant with the fish swimming in the river.....

I was last at Zoravor Sourp Astvatsatsin for the New Year mass at midnight (December 2017/January 2018 - the blessing of the Poegrenate was a wonderful experience for someone who attends Armenians Chruch every Sunday. This is the longest surviving church in Yerevan and a truly holy site what with being the resting place of the apostle Ananias. It is a working church with a very solemn and powerful presence. You should not dismiss the beauty of the church though in case you do not think of yourself as particularly religious - this is still a magnificent little bit of the old Yerevan before the old apartment blocks came up in the area. The alter is a very pretty one and the inscriptions are beautiful from an aesthetic perspective...
