North Arizona is famous for the Grand Canyon, a colorful chasm with steep rocky walls more than a mile deep and stretching some 277 miles alongside the Colorado River. Other notable destinations in North Arizona include Flagstaff set alongside the San Francisco Peaks which has the largest ponderosa pine forest, Museum of Northern Arizona, and is close to a number of national parks and monuments. McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park

Climb aboard the miniature replica of a Colorado narrow gauge railroad to explore this park that features famous railroad cars and an antique carousel.

This is a great way to spend a beautiful day in the Phoenix area if you have kids under the age of 5. There's a large playground and a model railroad for free, and for less than $20 you can buy enough tickets for a family of 4 to ride the carousel and the miniature train and visit the museum, which has real historical train cars to explore. There's tons of space for picnics and just running around, too.

Pinnacle Peak and Trail Dust Town are rich with their own history, and people come from all over the world to experience the old west at these centerpieces of Tucson. Don't miss a wild west stunt show by the Pistoleros Wild West Show! The shows are full of lots of high-falls, low-falls, gunfights, fistfights, explosions, and family friendly slapstick comedy! Take a ride on the CP Huntington Railroad! The miniature train is fun for all ages, and its path reveals some of Trail Dust Town's hidden gems. Enjoy the carousel and Ferris wheel at PollyAnna Park! This is a beautiful area perfect for an evening of rides, popcorn, and taking in the blissful Tucson weather. PollyAnna Park is also available for birthday parties! Home to many shops, Trail Dust Town is a perfect destination for gifts and souvenirs. Trail Dust Town is also home to the elegant Savoy Opera House- a beautiful venue with Victorian charm. The Savoy is ideal for weddings, bar mitzvahs, quinceaneras, and more.

Live entertainment, gourd judging in the Pinal County Fairground building, hand-crafted gourds for sale from vendors from many states, gourd games for the children, live entertainment, food vendors, hundreds of dried gourds for sale just waiting for your creative ideas, lots of free parking and I must mention the play on the word 'gourd' which brought smiles to our faces. When my grandkids are here this is number one on their list of things to do! Facility is very well staffed and is accommodating for all visitors. I do wish they had more open swim times but when they do I can go sit in one of the hot therapy pools while my kiddos have a blast in the wave pool/Olympic size swimming pool, huge water slide or the splash pad. Never a shortage of life guards either
