The state of Arizona is one that features a fantastic diversity of landscapes and areas of geological interest. North Arizona is famous for the Grand Canyon, a colorful chasm with steep rocky walls more than a mile deep and stretching some 277 miles alongside the Colorado River. Other notable destinations in North Arizona include Flagstaff set alongside the San Francisco Peaks which has the largest ponderosa pine forest, Museum of Northern Arizona, and is close to a number of national parks and monuments. On the south side of Arizona lies the city of Phoenix, the largest in Arizona. Notable day trips in Phoenix include the Heard Museum which is one of America's largest collections of Native American art, Phoenix Museum of History, as well as the Desert Botanical garden which has a great collection of desert plants.

Very knowledgeable staff who answered all our questions. Great displays of the hiking trails-best I’ve ever seen for choosing the best hike based upon, difficulty, length of time, elevation etc. Very nice gift shop with very reasonable prices, and selection.

Visitor Center for the Mountain Empire area, including Patagonia, Sonoita and Elgin, AZ. We are open 7 days a week from 10 am - 4 pm from October through May.
We found maps and information for camping, hiking and biking by visiting this visitor center. We are so glad they directed us to the local attractions. We really enjoyed our visit.

This community library is nestled to the south of the Saguaro Ranch Park an has a spill-over of peacocks, pea hens and seasonal chicks from the neighbors. Watch where you step. The structure is surrounded with a variety of low water plants with educational signs to encourage planting desert style and conserving water. I attended on a day when the local seed library was present, they set up in the lobby. You can check out different types of desert and food seeds and are encouraged to bring some back after your harvest. Inside the library the staff is helpful and the electronic card catalogs are easy to follow. The selection of media is broad and the children's section was active. Libraries are no longer the "hush spot" but there are quiet areas set aside. The library offers free cards for those in the City of Glendale, those outside that boundary are offered with a small fee. There is a busy calendar of events to check out, stop on by!

The eastern section of Saguaro National Park.
This place should actually be listed as "Saguaro National Park - East". Saguaro NP is divided into two sections -- one east of Tucson and one west of Tucson. This review is for the West section. If you are in Tucson, this is a close-by experience of the Arizona Desert. A 30-minute 8-mile loop drive takes you through the foothills of the Rincon Mountains on a well-maintained, one-way, paved road with frequent parking pullouts to allow you to "get into the desert". This loop drive is incredible at sunset as you watch the sun go down over Tuscon and the city lights come on (which is when we did it). I highly recommend it. Visitor center closes before sunset, but the loop drive is open. Though I haven't been to Saguaro NP - West in quite a few years, it is also a nice drive, though on a dirt road.

Located in the Historic Train Station, the Flagstaff Visitor Center provides local travel information. Make the visitor center your first stop to make so that you get the most out of your visit to Flagstaff. Pick up local maps and brochures, explore displays on activities in Flagstaff and shop our gift shop while watching trains rumble by out front.
This is located right on the railroad tracks and every time a train would come by, alot we would watch it under the watchful eye of the old grumpy man from the Amtrak station in the same building. I think his mission in life is to yell at as many people as possible to get away from the tracks. We left because we got tired of seeing such bad behavior from an old man. This is not a reflection on the visitor center though, I only bring it up because the buildings are attached.
